The non-district part of the Volleyball season has come to an end and now The ReSporter will go over significant wins and losses by the District 28-4A teams to see which club might have the inside track for winning this race.
Canyon Lake will start their district slate with a bye as the other 4 schools start on Friday night.
Boerne Greyhounds lost to La Vernia in much the same way as CL as both teams could not reach the 20 point plateau in getting swept by the Bears.
The Greyhounds played several San Antonio schools which would show up in their loss column as most of those contests had Boerne playing tough Private schools or much larger 6A affairs.
Their best win came a few weeks ago when they beat Holy Cross in a 5 game set.
Bandera has already played Fredericksburg in a tournament and was swept by the Billies. This Bulldog team had their best win over Jourdanton which would also match Hondo who just had a victory over this same school.
Hondo has been on the winning side in beating Pleasanton which also possesses a winning slate at this writing.
Fredericksburg was swept by La Vernia earlier this year but the Billies did show some fight as they scored more points than Boerne and your Hawks.
A Billie win over SA Christian looks impressive as that loss for SAC is just one of eight for this season.
Most of Fredericksburg’s wins came against schools that were under or right at a .500 club percentage.
Canyon Lake can claim two wins over Wimberley and Akins. Both schools have winning records and a win over Johnson City was the best game as JC has over 20 wins this season. The Eagles also avenged that loss with a 3-2 win a few weeks ago.
So a recap would show that this district race might be wide open with the top 3 schools being Fredericksburg, Canyon Lake, and Boerne.
If Hondo and Bandera pull off a win, then that would be a major upset based on games played up to this point.
Boerne’s schedule looked the toughest and that helps their record look better than where the Greyhounds stand at this point in time.
Fredericksburg has an advantage with a stellar season last year and seeing if the Hawks and Boerne are able to claim that Billie Hill and could make this a good group of games left on their schedules.
Looking at District 27-4A will tell what would happen in that first round of the playoffs, as La Vernia and Navarro. will battle for first and probably have Wimberley taking 3rd place in that race.
Canyon Lake and the rest of District 28-4A will be wanting to end the district race in 1st or 2nd place as that 3rd and 4th place finisher will have a one and done after being paired with two schools that are presently ranked in the top 20, Navarro and La Vernia.
Consistency will have to be the mantra for the Hawks as this year has been a roller-coaster ride and that has left a lot of queasy stomachs for those in the stands and on the courts thus far.
To take that one step further, consistency has to be better, as there is no time to take any time off as these games coming up does not have any do-overs.
Go Hawks!!
