CL Hawks Freshman Win Going Away over Billies, 30-16

As Easy as 1-2-3 with Peyton McMullen, Noah DuMenil, and Ryan Rivali

Canyon Lake Freshman scored the first 30 points in quick fashion and then waited for the clock to expire in a convincing win over the Battlin Bilies, 30-14.

“We played with a smaller group tonight,” Freshman Coach Javier Almanza said. “We played with no excuses and we worked on focusing on our preparation….we had been practicing well and being a scout team for the varsity has really made a difference in our preparation.”

Interviews with Ryan Rivali, Peyton McMullen, and Noah DuMenil are below the Game Stats.

That preparation took just 8 plays and a CL touchdown when QB Patrick McMullen scampered across the goal line from 5 yards out for the first Hawks drive and TD.

Canyon Lake would then get an interception on Fredericksburg’s next possession when McMullen was waiting for the ball after the Billies QB was hurried from the Hawk’s defensive line.

Same song and same verse as the Hawks used 13 plays for this score with the longest runs coming from Ryan Rivali and Derek Wiatrek as both kept the drive going with 10 yard runs, 16-0 Hawks.

A Billie fumble would give CL a chance to score before halftime and this Freshman team did not disappoint when Wiatrek would score from 2 yards out with 24 seconds remaining before the break.

Fredericksburg had just one first down during the first part of the game as the visitors could only muster 30 yards of offense, as the Hawks controlled the game in every facet.

Canyon Lake would set up shop to start the 2nd Half when Freddie failed on their on-side kick try.

This drive took 6 plays as Rivali would be wide open on a pass play from 30 yards out from McMullen with a statement drive, letting the Billies know, there would not be a chance for a win on this night, 30-0.

A nifty punt return helped set up the Billies first score in the 4th quarter that had Freddie traveling 6 yards for their first score.

But it was mop up duty that allowed the final Billie touchdown in a game that was decided early on.

The Hawks next foe will be Taylor as the Freshman look to finish this season strong.
