CL Hawks Put Yellowjackets in a Straight Jacket in Win, 59-39

Canyon Lake took the lead for good with 1:50 on the 1st quarter clock for a 20 point win over Llano, 59-39.

“We started off slow,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman stated. “We looked tired coming out in the first half but we continued to play hard and then we found lots of energy as the game progressed.”

Parker Mott is all smiles after a 17 point game and win over Llano.

The Hawks had 3 players reach double digit scoring with Parker Mott leading with 17 points followed by Jarred Rollins and Tae Gray both with 11 points.

CL’s largest lead was 24 points (57-33) when Rollins banked a shot in with 2 minutes left in the contest.

Rollins finished with a double-double as he also contributed with 11 rebounds that had 7 coming on the offensive glass. Taliaferro lead the Hawks with 12 bounds for the game.

Canyon Lake has just one player that started last year on the Varsity in Mott, who was active corralling 4 assists, to go with his overall game.

(you can see the interview with Parker Mott below the Box Score)

This win evened the Lake’s record at 2 and will be on a break before a date with Somerset next Tuesday.

With 15 steals, CL, would make a statement with their defense leading to a bus load of points. The Hawks scored 15 points off of the Yellowjackets turnovers. Which lead to Canyon Lake amassing just 5 turnovers for the game.

A couple of indicators for what would be an improvement from previous years, with a low in turnovers (6) coupled with a 78% free throw percentages can lead to many more happy dressing room talks at the end of a battle.

Canyon Lake had 9 second chance points to Llano’s 2 as those offensive rebounds helped pad that production.

                  Go Hawks!!

The Hawks will continue their season still waiting for the football players to show but waiting is a good thing as that will tell you that football continues from week to week.

Somerset is in the same situation as CL, so next week’s game will be up in the air on who might have the advantage.

The present crew suiting up seem to be coming together and that will bode well for the future.
