Hawks Wings Clipped in Loss to Hondo, 63-47

Canyon Lake Hawks won the last 3 quarters, 43-40 but that first stanza was brutal as the Hondo Owls put a 19 point deficit to start the game and eventual victory, 63-47 on the road last Friday night.

     We are Proud of the Hawks!

Spotting a team 19 points would not be a good way to have a positive outcome for any team and CL certainly dug a hole that would not have an escape in this loss.

Caimen McDonough finished the contest with a double-double after scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the contest. Parker Mott would be the only other Hawk with double digit scoring after sinking 4 three-pointers for his 14 point game.

McDonough collected 4 blocks as CL finished the night rejecting 9 total Hondo shots but the 25 turnovers and poor free-throw shooting spelled doom with just one make in 8 attempts.

Joseph Boyd and Sam Schimank got into the game as Boyd has missed the whole season and Schimank had not played since before the Christmas break. The rust will take a while to get cleaned up as all the momentum the Hawks had garnished in their last 3 games was doused with cold water in that first quarter of play.

Hondo outscored the Hawks by 15 points from the charity stripe and that would be another  happening that will have CL needing a win to get on the winning track, as the Hawks will welcome Fredericksburg in the Hawk Nest this coming Tuesday as another tough District 28-4A team will be coming in to flex their muscles.

Canyon Lake will need to start stronger and not spot any points for future opponents.
