Canyon Lake has their biggest win of the season as the Hawks went on the road and scored 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning for a 1st Place victory, 8-5.

“Huge win for our program,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “This win was a total team effort. I’m so happy for our girls, they worked relentlessly throughout the entire game and never let down.”

Fredericksburg came into this contest as the favorite based on their record and how easily they had been manhandling their opponents. There were some games that both teams had played and that would be another indicator that this could be tough evening for the Hawks

The Hit Man says ‘Keep getting Hits Hawks!!

Those numbers can be pretty intimidating for any opponent going on the road to Billie Land. Add a 4-0 home record for a team that outscored their visitors by a whopping, 54-2 count in those four games.

Just for good measure, for understanding on how good this Fredericksburg School is. In one of their exhibition games they lost to Wimberley, 7-6. The Texans are the rascals that have a 30-9 combined score in CL’s two losses in earlier contests on the Back-Bone Series.

One more point to sink your teeth into, counting just Billie losses, those schools have a combined won-loss record of, 67-40-1. There was just one opponent that had a losing record which was the Argyle Eagles.

Scoring runs has not been a weakness for the Lady Billies and Canyon Lake would have to be playing one of their best games of their season for a win.

In that first inning, Freddie started the contest with a single and error putting their first two batters on with no outs. Then CL would respond with a strikeout and two balls that failed to reach the outfield and a tied score, 0-0 after one stanza of play.

This was a good sign as a Billie rally to start the game could have been a start to an avalanche of runs.

CL Hawks soar High in Win

CL’s Maddy Puente would start the 2nd with a triple that just missed going out of the park. Then her sister, Kay Puente came to the rescue with a two-out single for the first score in this District 28-4A battle.

The Hawks would tack on two more runs in the top of the 3rd with a home-run over the left-field fence by Bailey Bryan who has been red hot from the plate this year. This was her 3rd homer in her last 3 games and now Bryan has the most home runs for a season as this was her 6th homer and a 2-0 score for the Hawks.

Maddy Puente would double on her next time to bat 2 hitters later and Adriana Peaslee had singled to score and give Canyon Lake a 3-0 lead.

Fredericksburg was doused on their next chance when a nifty play after a bunt single that had Kay Puente throwing to Marley Carrizales who then threw to home plate to keep a run from scoring. A strikeout and ground out to Peaslee would end the second inning Billie threat.

The Billies loaded the bases for their next inning and then Maggie Banks would strikeout the next Billie and then a fielders choice ground ball had FHS with their first run. Canyon Lake would not have a good game fielding as another error kept that inning going and CL would end with 6 errors on the night.

      Great Game and Go Hawks!!

That 3rd out had Bryan pegging an advancing Bille trying to score for the lead after a single by A. Weinheimer and that had Findley being called out at the plate for the 2nd time, saving another chance for a score for the Billies, 3-3.

Fredericksburg would lead off their 5th inning with a home-run by Boetcher who had also come into the circle to pitch earlier in the contest. This gave the home team a lead and a chance to see how this Hawk team might respond.

A good response when Canyon Lake’s pitcher would be next to help her cause when Banks would have a two out single that drove in Carrizales and Bryan after those two had singled and walked on their trips to the plate.

That Banks single was magnified by an error by the Billies outfield and CL would regain their lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning, 5-4.

A two out Freddie single would plate the tying run in a game that would soon become a classic, as the two front-runners battled down to the wire to have an inside track in this district race.

Both teams came up empty in that 7th stanza and now Fredericksburg would be in some unfamiliar ground as it was mentioned in the Pre-Game article that the Billies had very few games that would advance past the 5th inning this year. Many games are that way by design as Tournaments are usually timed and very rarely go the distance.

In those other possible going the distance games, Fredericksburg had scored so many runs that the run-rule would halt a chance for more at bats for either club.

Mima's says good game Freshman Hawks!!

            Way to Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake would waste little time in getting their next inning going as the top of the batting order had Carrizales with her 3rd hit for the game with a line-drive over the Billies pitcher. Kenzie Sayles would sacrifice Carrizales into scoring position.

The 3rd intentional walk to Bryan in a row would put two Hawks on base for the meat of the order. A Banks ground out would advance both Hawk runners and increase the number of ways a team can score from 3rd base. But on the flip side, the damage would need to occur with 2 outs.

Maddy Puente would have her 3rd extra-base hit on the game, a double to center field would score both runs and still give CL a chance for more damage with Maddy Puente standing on second base.

Peaslee would not disappoint, with another single and her 2nd rbi in this game for an insurance run and a Hawk, 8-5 lead.

Fredericksburg would face another rising star for CL in Banks who went the distance in the circle. The Billies would greet Banks with a single to right field and that would heat up some anticipation a notch.

Young Life says Go Hawks

Maggie went to the Bank and made a deposit with a strikeout and then a pop-out to Banks for the 2nd out. A one pitch flyball to Maddy Puente for the win would put a fork in them as this game would be a Hawk win, 8-5.

Canyon Lake started this year with an 8 game losing streak and now find themselves in a place that has already clinched a playoff spot for more games. Now this Hawk team can work on improving their seeding and hope for better results when that time of the season commences.

Your Hawks will be home this coming Tuesday when the Bandera Bulldogs come to town for a game that will conclude the first round of competition. An exciting club to watch and if you cannot make the game, then you can catch this game on Live-Stream by CLB.

Tune in 30 minutes before the first pitch and catch the play-by-play and excitement of another Hawk Sport that is making noise in District 28-4A play.

Go Hawks!!
