Great Comeback, as CLJV Beat Bandera JV, 7-6

Post-Game Conference after Win over Bandera JV.

Canyon Lake’s JV Softball finished this game by having their first six players in their last inning reach base scoring 5 runs and winning the game against Bandera JV, 7-6.

Erin Hartman all smiles after a double that tied game.

Erin Hartman’s double plated 3 runs to tie the score and then Rachel Tucker would single scoring Hartman with the winning run.

“Great comeback!,” JV Head Coach Jimmy Chamberlin said matter of factly. “(Kaitlyn) Keltner threw the hardest I had seen her throw and she threw a good game.”

There were many chances for the JV Hawks to score more runs but getting hits at the right moments allowed this game to go in Bandera’s favor as this game matured in those middle stanza’s.

“We struggled to hit,” Coach Chamberlin said. “We needed to be patient in our last opportunity to get it done and they did it!”

Hannah Gallagher started the game with a single and then two consecutive walks loaded the bases without a recorded out. Getting hits with runners in scoring position would not be in the cards as the next two Hawks would ground out into a fielders cholces, that would score just one run.

Keltner would help her cause being in the circle, singling in that second run, scoring Kaylee Moore and a, 2-0 CLJV lead.

          Go Lady Hawk’s Softball

That would hold up until the top of the 3rd when the Bulldogs would score 5 runs and take the lead.

Keltner had total command going into that inning after retiring 8 of the first 10 batter’s she faced.

Bandera’s first hit happened to start the 3rd and a quick pop-up would have CL in a good spot to have no damage done. An error on the next play would change that outlook and the Bulldogs’ next 6 batters would reach base giving the Visitor’s a 5-2 lead.

Another score during the top of the 4th had Bandera up, 6-2 with one more chance before the time-limit would end this battte.

Samarah Stevenson would start the final at bat taking first base after being hit by the Softball. Then 3 consecutive walks would score Stevenson and have CL within 4 runs of winning the game.

That was when Hartman would take her turn in the batter’s box, where she hit a towering ball that cleared the bases and having that double tie the score, 6-6.

                     Go Hawks!!

“We were losing so I had to hit the ball,” Hartman said after mentioning that statement, even if CL had been ahead she still would want to hit the ball. “You hit the ball no matter what….but this hit gives me more confidence because now i know I can hit that far.”

Hartman was still on second base and a tied score, so the contest was within reach when Rachel Tucker would single driving in that winning run and complete this comeback victory.

Canyon Lake’s Varsity only has 2 Seniors playing this year giving you an idea of how each JV player needs to impress the Coaches for chances of moving up. That is a great motivator and gives the Hawk Nation an idea of how deep this and many other CL teams are becoming as each year Mountain Valley continues to graduate more depth for their Varsity squads.

Congrats and Go Hawks!!
