Pre-Game: Marble Falls @ Canyon Lake Friday 7:30pm
Pre-Game: Marble Falls @ Canyon Lake Friday 7:30p Mustangs 0-0 Hawks 0-0 Series: This is the first meeting between these two schools. Season Scores: This is the first game for this Season. ==========================================================
Marble Falls was scheduled as the first game this season to take the place for a departing Blanco contest.
You will notice that Blanco is still on this year’s schedule since the Panthers could not find a game in time, so you will see that series continue for these next two seasons.
The Mustangs finished last season with a 3-7 mark and that young team is now poised to start this campaign with several starters (15) returning. MF is in District 13-5A Division II that comprises 8 teams making Canyon Lake just one of two non-district contests.
QB Andrew Stripling will be in his 3rd year taking snaps for the Mustangs after completing 58% of his passes last season for 1800 yards. Stripling was able to make positive yardage on the ground after scrambling for 150 yards to keep a drive going for these Mustangs.
CL knows that advantages of having a 3 year starter at the helm, after the Hawk’s Ben Fulton finished his work last year, taking Canyon Lake further than they have ever traveled losing a 3rd round contest with La Vega.
Running Back Dillon Mayberry will be seen running and receiving while Wide-Receiver Brendon Sapp should be their go to player on the receiving end. Another returning running back that will be involved is Cooper Wilson who finished right at 300 yards on the ground.
Marble Falls defense had more success against the run last season and faced several passing offenses. Linebackers, Reece Van Hoose and Zach Fearn will be relied on in helping stop a Hawk Offense that makes it’s living running the ball……A Lot.
CL will open their 6th year with the Slot-T offense which has had a break out for two years running (pardon the pun) scoring 872 points while giving up, 530 points for an average score, 36-22.
The Hawks will be breaking in a new QB and several spots on that all-important offensive line. The question for CL is not knowing if this team has arrived with a mentality of reloading and not losing a beat as they plug in those players that have been waiting for their chance to start.
Canyon Lake is just 4 wins away of getting to a .500 mark record wise and playing a 5A school will be a good test in seeing what might be in store this year for this Hawk team.
Expect a lot of running from Canyon Lake and a mix-it-up offense from Marble Falls. This game will hinge on how well the Mustangs can stop CL’s running game. if that does not happen then MF will have a tough time in getting time to run their offense.
Canyon Lake, welcomes Marble Falls to open this season and a start of their 11th season.
Go Hawks!!
