BCS Volleyball Beat Waldorf, Clinch Tie for District Crown
“We are so excited about last night!! Both JV and Varsity persevered for our district title,” Head Coach Shaunna Teuton said excitedly.
The Warriors started the match losing their first game, 23-25.
“I think we were working out the nerves in the first game,” Coach Teuton said. “We were making some mistakes that we don’t typically make and they came out with a fast lead. We worked hard to catch up, but never passed them. At the end of the first game we had the momentum, though not the win, and went with it. They were close games and we had to work hard.”
Bracken has been on a roll after losing their first District game of the year. The Warriors have been unbeaten since the loss to Kerrville OLH four weeks ago.
“Last night had a pretty good offensive night and a great defensive night,” Coach Teuton continued. “The kills were pretty equally spread across the board leading with Amanda (Morgan) but Bri (Brianna Martinez and Becky (Korkosz) following close behind them. Bailey (Beene) contributed 5 kills this game- a high for her- and a momentum shifting block– just like last game against Waldorf.”
Waldorf was the preseason favorite when District play starts, but the upstart Warriors have jumped high and blocked several teams from advancing this season.
“I think we are peaking at the right time and I think we’ve had to fight a little bit more in district than those across the state and that really prepares us for playoffs,” Teuton said reflectively. “We needed to get this win to theoretically clench the district title and we did–Thursday will seal the deal. We are going to work some more on our confidence this week while we have off-probably schedule a warm up game.”
The Warriors will be celebrating Senior this Thursday as the team plays their last official game in Brackens Gymnasium.
“I kept hearing the girls say last night, ‘I’m so happy’, ‘This feels so good’—I think something really clicked last night and I hope we continue to work toward our goal–getting back to the State Tournament,” Coach Teuton concluded. “It’s only been one year that we’ve sat out, but it seems longer. I think if we work hard, play smart and don’t falter we could find ourselves there this year.”
“One game at a time..of course,” Shaunna Teuton reminded herself.
The Warriors dominated the next three games in the match as each game Bracken improved on their separation from their competition.
One thing is for certain with this team…they are in shape. That could very well be the reason for the separation as the games continue. The Warriors seem to have a different resolve and are looking past the net.
