Hawk Baseball Finish Pre-Season in Win over Lockhart, 2-0
Canyon Lake’s Baseball team finished their scrimmage schedule with a well pitched game with Lockhart.
The Hawks won this 9 inning affair, 2-0 with some outstanding arms on the mound that started with Cale Claycomb with 4 innings of shut-out ball.
Claycomb would be in midseason form after picking off a runner on 1st base which has become common occurrence since this young man has been working on the mound.
Tyler Pauly was the next arm that had more of the same in keeping runs off the scoreboard for the visitors.
Sophomore Pauly transfered into Canyon Lake this year and has been an active in Hawk Sports starting with the JV Football team and then going to the Hard-Wood and showing off his basketball prowess.
In both of those venues, Pauly was moved up to Varsity and will seem to be a Varsity Baseball player with an active arm to help bolster the pitching staff.
Matt Anderson finished off Lockhart with more outs and helping complete this 9 inning scrimmage without any damage done.
CL was played well in the field after committing only one error which will go hand and hand with the pitching staff in keeping a game within striking distance and chances for wins.
Canyon Lake made the playoffs last year after an 8 year slumber for a Hawk Sport that was the first to go past the Bi-District contest and missing by one out in going to the 3rd round during a banner 2009 campaign.
“This was a good scrimmage when you can get two teams with good pitching,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said.
The Hawks did respond with 2 runs in those latter innings when Tanner Sellers drove a ball in the gap for a stand-up double and enough runs that made this night a success as CL will prepare for a Monday night contest against Gonzales to start this season.
The Junior Varsity will have their first pitch at 4:30 followed by a 7:00pm start afterwards.
Canyon Lake won their Wednesday scrimmage with Burnet with good pitching (giving up one run) and some live bats after scoring 15 runs.
The Hawks will be in action on Thursday with a Marion Tournament that will run to Saturday.
Could be a special year and a good time to come out to the Ball-Park for some Crackerjacks.
Go Hawks!!
