Lady Hawks Win Must Game over Texan’s, 13-8 & District Standings
Good ending in a must win affair against Wimberley, 13-8.
The Lady Hawks need every win they can take during this time of the season and a win over the Texans helped in putting The Lake in a position of having a chance for a Bi-District contest.
A 5-run win, 13-8, helped in this game count after a loss to Wimbo to start district competition in that first round and CL will now enter their last 3 games for an outside chance of getting to that proverbial finish line with two home battles this week.

Wimberley jumped out to a 2 run lead after holding the Hawks scoreless in the top of that first inning, while the Texans started off with two straight hits on their home half and scoring those two baserunners, on a sacrifice fly and fielders choice outs, 0-2.
Emma Lane started CL’s scoring with a single that scored Jessie Melendez, who reached on an error. Marley Carrizales knocked in Kaylee Puente next and that would tie the score, helping to reel in those Texans like a lasso.
Maddy Puente was in the circle and after that, 2 run first inning for Wimberley, would put up 0’s for her next 5 innings and that would be enough for The Lake to score, 9 unanswered runs. Putting the Hawk’s advantage up by 7 runs, going to those last two frames, 9-2.
Canyon Lake benefited with a double off the bat of Bailey Bryan that jump started a 6 run 4th inning that gave, The Lake a big 7 run cushion. Those Puente sister’s added two more extra base hits that helped compliment Bryan’s double. Kaylee’s triple followed Maddy’s double which capped off those much needed runs and a more comfortable lead.
CL would run their lead up to 9 runs with a 2-run 6th inning after Maddy Puente and Adriana Peaslee started this frame with two singles and moved up on a Melendez sacrifice. Angie Rodriguez would single in Peaslee and the Hawks would go into the bottom of the 6th with an, 11-2 cushion.
Wimberley would not be finished and made things interesting, with two consecutive innings scoring 3 runs, but another Hawk 2-run inning to start the 7th had CL in the driver’s seat with a much needed victory.
The Texans scored 3 unearned runs in their last inning and Maddy Puente would record her 4th strikeout to end this game.

Every Hawk reached base and all but two would have an rbi as the Hawks will have two important games this week when Llano and Fredericksburg come to the Hawk Nest on Tuesday and Friday before a road game to Bandera that will end this district season.

Every team is one game better or worse on this totem-pole and your Hawk’s first need is knowing the first 4 teams that qualify make the post-season.
That puts Canyon Lake and Llano as those two schools looking in from the outside, at a four team party, (Freddie-Boerne-Bandera-Wimberley).
Wimberley has a tough road with their last 3 games to play include Freddie, Boerne, and Bandera…and that Freddie-Boerne combo being road games. The Texans have been handicapped in having their starting pitcher being in that injured category.
Canyon Lake starts this next week needing a win over Llano which is, ironically, the only win the Yellowjackets recorded in that first round.
CL has victories over Bandera and Wimberley which helps but that loss to Llano is what has added another hurdle to this Hawk race before they reach finish line. Winning on Tuesday would help erase that hurdle.
The Hawks finish off their home schedule with the Billies on Friday and in their first contest, that result was a blow-out victory and certainly puts this game on the loss side of the ledger.
That leaves a tough road outing to Bandera, however with that being an earlier win would give CL a chance of getting two out of three wins to end their district campaign.
Wimbo’s chances hinge on if their starting pitcher can get back in the saddle but having two road games against the top 2 teams presently at the top of the standings would play into CL’s favor.
Llano would need to sweep their final 3 contests and that would start with a victory over your Hawks. Certainly a possibility, as they know they can come away with that first win of 3 needed. With two more games against Boerne and Freddie, gives them a very high bar to clear. That is certainly doable, as this Yellowjacket team had Boerne on the ropes in their first round, losing in their final inning by one run.
So, being in a position that has your hopes based on how other schools play their games, is not the best way to hang your future plans.
From the rendition above, Canyon Lake has a chance and that is all that can be hoped for. How these next 3 games unfold will have the Hawks faithful hoping that, unfolding is not coming from an onion, where there would only be crying once that last peel is taken away.
