Hawk Softball Dig Deeper Hole in Loss to Llano, 7-6
Canyon Lake dug a deeper hole for a chance of a post-season game, in an extra inning loss, on Tuesday night at the Hawk Nest, 7-6
Key hits were all on the side of the Yellowjackets as they used their hits combined with 8 baserunners reaching base via a walk in scoring enough runs for this victory.
Four Hawks finished this game with 2 hits (Kenzie Sayles, Adriana Peaslee, Kaylee Puente, Emma Lane) and all but one CL player had a hit but in the end, leaving a tying run on 3rd base in that 8th inning doused all hope of a chance for a win.
District 28-4A Standings
Fredericksburg 7 1 .875
Boerne 6 2 .750
Bandera 4 4 .500
Wimberley 3 5 .375
Llano 2 6 .250
CL Hawks 2 6 .250
Canyon Lake will have to pass two teams for a chance of enjoying a chance to play more games after next Tuesday. Losing to the Llano for the second time will put CL on the wrong end of a tie-breaker rule if these two teams finished tied for that 4th spot.
Wimberley continues to struggle without their ace pitcher and CL has a game with front-runner Freddie this Friday at home and then their final contest in Bandera. Two teams in the upper echelon in the District 28-4A standings above.
Llano’s two remaining battles will be pitted against the top two school’s in district but the most important cog is what will Wimberley do? The Texan’s will need to win one game to cement their playoff resume and they will close out their season with games with a home contest with Bandera this Friday.
If Wimberley comes out on the short end of that game then they will finish on the road in Boerne. All three teams with a chance of reaching post-season play have battles with the top 3 schools in this district.
Canyon Lake would need to win one of their remaining two and hope the Texans go out with two more losses. Then a tie-breaker based both teams having a 1-1 record in their two battles and that would have both teams with that one game play-off.
Not the best way to end a year when you are dependent on how other schools finish, but the Hawk’s hand has been dealt and the best thing that they can do is win their final two, in having the best chance of continuing another round.
