CL Hawks Gold Whip Seguin, 36-6

Colby Mickey taking a knee in the victory formation in win over Seguin, 36-6.

Canyon Lake’s Gold team finished off Seguin (36-6) on Thursday to run their record to 3-2 and will prepare for a 3 game series against Fredericksburg next for this upstart team.

The Hawks started this contest with a 3 play drive covering 56 yards and score that would not be threatened for the remainder of this game, 6-0. Peyton McCormick totaled 44 yards after Cameron Valigura started this drive on a 12 yard scamper.

CL Gold’s defense was just as lethal in holding Seguin to 17 total yards of offense as the Matadors were under water finishing the game with a negative 5 yards rushing.

This Gold Hawk team sports a 3-2 record going into a 3 game series with the Billies. It will be the Gold’s first road game of the season as this group of young man start to find a strong identity.

A team that is showing some spunk on both sides of the ball with a decent rushing game that is vintage slot-t. This contest had Canyon Lake with no punts and just one fumble that was recovered by the Quarterback.

McCormick continues his impressive speed after reaching 163 yards on 10 carries and 3 touchdowns. All of McCormick’s scores were from 20 or more yards. There were 10 different Hawks that had a rushing play called for them as this bevy of players continues to improve each week.

Alex Mejia and Eliseo Velazquez after win over Seguin.

Alex Mejia scored the final touchdown on a 10 yard bruising run through the middle of the line as his run seemed like a runner who wanted to hit opposing players than dodge them on those carries.

“I can do that position,” Mejia said matter of factly on his blocking on those jet offensive plays. “I work hard and do what I can to get the block….I have to protect him (McCormick).”

That would happen on several plays that allowed McCormick get to the corner and then turn on the jets for explosive plays.

Linebacker Zachary Tubb sacked Seguin’s quarterback in that 2nd quarter that highlighted a first half that allowed the Matadors no positive yardage and finishing the first two quarters with -23 yards rushing.

That same result (negative yardage) came from Defensive Lineman Eliseo Velazquez who had two sacks while hurrying the quarterback on most of those called passing plays by the visitors.

                       Go Hawks!

“I want to hear my name called,” Velazquez said in response on how his battery seems to be in overdrive, especially in this battle. “Especially when we blitz…those calls come from our coaches and that means I will be waiting in getting some tackles.”

Velazquez was one of many Hawks on this night that was able to crash the line in wreak havoc on the Seguin.

There were some other unique plays that mirrored that safety by Tubb, when Reef Malish had his version of a 100 yard sprint after scooping up a lose ball on Seguin’s only point after try that ended with a Hawk 2 pointer after Malish took the rock back for a score.

This game did have some problems that will need to be cleaned up before the next game commences next Thursday.

QB Sam Zinn had no time in getting a pass off that can be seen by his -23 yards of rushing in this win.

CL Gold will strap in for a chance of finishing off Fredericksburg in this unique 3 game series.

Bunk-Haus says Way to Go Hawks!!

“I’m ready to whip some butt,” Mejia said with bravado. “I think they will be easy.”

Velazquez was just as confident, “I’m ready to win and for this challenge….we will hit them in the mouth and send them to the dentist.”

It does not seem this Gold team is lacking in confidence…maybe they can put Gold in those new teeth for the Billies. That would be a win-win for both teams.

Go Hawks!!
