CL Hawks Green Squad Hold Off Poteet JV, 21-18

Kylie Rust and Maddie Pipkin help CL Green starting with a win over Poteet.

Canyon Lake’s Green Basketball Team disposed of Poteet’s Junior Varsity, 21-18 in a game they never trailed and led by as many as many as 10 points, 13-3 late during the 2nd quarter.

“We haven’t scored this well in an opening game in a while,” Head JV Coach Jimmy Chamberlin said. “We had good looks early overall in knocking it down.”

CL had several players with a high basketball IQ which will play well as this season matures. That IQ will translate in wins even if the team is not hitting a percentage of shots. Which was the situation on this night.

Defense played well and the overall ball movement starting right out of the gate will give this team chances for victories.

The ReSporter caught up with two players after this win in Kylie Rust and Maddie Pipkin, even tho there could have been many more on this night.

              Let’s Go Hawks!!

When asked how the team responded after the Aggies worked their way back to an, 18-18 tie with still 2 minutes remaining. Rust had this to say, “We needed to have key play and slow it down and get back into our pace of the game.”

Rust continued, “We listened to Coach and he asked us to just execute our plays.”

That was instrumental as in the past this type of game might spell doom with a turnover or a the team taking a bad shot.

Another player that was active in Volleyball was Maddie Pipkin, “We really needed to stay aggressive and try to score points.”

                      Go Hawks!

On what it is like switching sports without any sort of break, “At first I was a little rusty after practice but now we are getting back into it.”

That was certainly apparent in this first game and win as this team will have a fast start with a Tournament in Fredericksburg this week.

Keep up your work ethic and keep this season going strong and Go Hawks!!
