Baseball: CL Hawks Prepare for Friday’s Scrimmage after Beating Burnet last Monday

Canyon Lake’s Baseball team is now down to one more scrimmage before their season is for real, after demolishing Burnet, 13-2 in 10 innings of exhibition play.

              Way to Go Hawks!!

The Hawks were able to amass 21 hits along with coaxing 7 walks and 6 players that were hit by pitches. That added up for a plethora of players reaching base which helped CL take this scrimmage with ease.

The Lake’s pitching staff did have 6 shut-out innings before a Bulldog passed home plate but issuing 8 walks will be something that Canyon Lake will need to reduce.

On what the Coaches will be wanting to see on Friday when the Hawks take on Lockhart on the road, Coach Victor Escamilla said, “On Friday, I want to see our pitchers throw strikes, our fielders make routine plays, and our hitters make solid contact.”

Pretty simple wants from Coach Escamilla and seeing if CL can do those simple things would be another good sign that this group of players being ready to get this season going.

Mason Lee led CL with 3 hits while 5 other Hawks finished with 2 hits a piece. Caleb Williams, Brandon Robinson, Tanner Schultz, Kolten Ramey and Hayden Baker.

There was no Canyon Lake player that did not reach base in this contest. A lofty .586 on base percentage will tell that story after this blowout.

Pitching was touched by two runs after the mainstays had a good outing.

“Our Varsity pitchers, Tanner Schultz, Tyler Pauly, and Peyton McMullen threw a combined 8 shut-out innings as Burnet had problems in finding the zone,” Coach Escamilla stated.

Lockhart will hopefully have a more challenging team to help sharpen those Hawks skills as The Lake will start their season next Monday February 24th at home against Gonzales.

The Junior Varsity was on fire as well as this crew took the field before the Varsity game.

“JV did well,” Coach Escamilla said. “They scored double digits again. Pitching was ok and hitting was good.”

CL will have their last audition before getting this year underway and the game on Friday in Lockhart at this writing will be 55 degrees and partly sunny.

For the opening day against Gonzales, has a sunny day, reaching 65 degrees with a weekend of tournament games in Marion without any rain.

Great news and now sharpening those baseball skills will show a Hawk team ready to, ‘Play Ball’…..
