Baseball: Hawks Finish Pre-Season, 4-1 after Win over Lockhart

Canyon Lake’s Baseball team ended their warm-up games with a doable 4-1 record after beating Lockhart, 3-1 on Friday night.

             Way to Go Hawks!!

Sophomore Tanner Schultz ended his pre-season with four innings of work and giving up just 2 hits and a walk for his final audition tape while giving up a run.

Schultz left the game with a Hawk 1 run lead after getting on the scoreboard with Cale Claycomb getting a one-out walk and after a Matt Anderson pop-up out to first base. The Hawks had Ethan Slater on 2nd base after replacing Claycomb and had a stolen base to have CL in scoring position.

Kolton Ramey was hit by a pitch that had two Hawks on base and still looking at two outs with lead-off hitter Caleb Williams ready to bat.

After a strike and ball on the first two pitches, had Williams doubling to left field that scored Slater with CL’s first run. Schultz would have a 12 pitch inning and 3 up and 3 down allowing to retire for the night with a lead and a win on his resume.

Canyon Lake would add their insurance runs in the top of the 5th when Brandon Robinson with a lead-off single that was followed by Schultz helping his cause with a single and putting two Hawks on base to start the 5th inning.

Robinson would take things into his own hands while Mason Lee was next up to bat, after stealing 3rd base and steals home for a Hawk, 2-0 lead. Lee would single in Schultz for the final runs and eventual Hawk win, 3-1.

Matt Anderson would start his inning giving up a double but no harm done with two infield ground outs and a fly ball out with CL going into their final inning.

Claycomb would give up two walks and a single but Lockhart would get just one run out of that damage.

Freshman Hunter Anderson would strikeout two with one walk to finish the game for Canyon Lake as they will start their season this Monday when Gonzales will pay a visit to the Hawk Nest.

Canyon Lake will finish their first week of play at the Marion Tournament and a chance to see how this Hawk Team can hopefully perform well after a successful pre-season set of games.
