Canyon Lake’s Volleyball squad started their season with a sweep of the Lampasas Badgers on Tuesday night, 25-18. 25-16, and 25-19.

“Lampasas was a scrappy team but this was a win and a good start for our season,” Head Coach Kim Clemons stated. “We will keep building because we are in a different mind set and we will need to push and we will get a good test this weekend both physically and mentally.”

               Let’s Go Hawks!!

After starting with a shaky scrimmage with Blanco, the Hawks were all business in starting their season with a solid win.

The Lake started discombobulated to start this match in struggling after being in the hole by six points early in the match.

Kaitlyn Cox was able to right the ship with a six point serve with several aces that would bring the Hawks back which fired up the team.

Canyon Lake was able to coast to an opening set win, 25-18.

That same motif continued in the second set with a, 25-16 win powered by an Addyson Andrews block that had the Hawks up, 21-13. Hannah Harrison entered with 2 aces and then 2 kills by Megan Vorhis to close out the second set.

Being the start of a season, Coach Clemons had more players able to get their feet wet to start that 3rd set but getting into rhythm was hard to find which had Lampasas starting with a 9-3 advantage.

A time-out allowed some starters to rotate back into game action and this time, Olivia Robinson entered on the back row and soon, CL was able to tie the game at 17 all.

    Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake would outscore the Badgers, 8-2 for the sweep to finish the match. Lily Sanders with a block and then some Vorhis kills would finish the game with a game clinching block that put this contest away, 25-19.

The Hawks will have a busy week-end when they host two three-team round robins starting with Blanco and Peaster on Friday with a 10am start.

Saturday will have La Vernia and Stephenville at the Hawk nest to finish out these battles with that first serve commencing at 10am against the Bears.

With a mixed up schedule due to the Wuhan Virus, there will not be any tournaments in the Wimberley Tex-Fest that had been cancelled for the first time.

The good news will have these next 4 teams on the Hawk’s docket for a best of 5 affairs compared to those best of 3 that are normal for tournament play.

Way to Go Hawks!!
