Football: CLJV Run Away from the Bee’sville in 34-0 White-Wash

Canyon Lake JV talks shop after a 34 win over Beeville on Thursday night.

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity saw through the Trojan horse in a white-wash win over Beeville, 34-00.

                   Go Hawks!!

With a Hawk defense that gave up a minuscule 1.3 yards per rushing attempt, The Lake, was able to keep this contest in pressure mold by methodically scoring when needed for this 34 point win.

No Hawk was able to break the 100 yard rushing barrier but with 8 players getting a chance to run with the rock, yardage was spread like mayo all over their bread in amassing 266 yards on the ground at an 8 yards per snap clip.

Add a perfect night for QB Coby Mickey with some acrobatic receptions by his receivers, particularly by the outstretched hands of AJ Acosta gave CL what was needed in keeping the Visitors guessing on what would be the next play.

There was one downfall in losing two fumbles which stopped two drives and one with Canyon Lake at the Trojan 20 yard line.

Beeville started the game with a botched kick-off return that had the Trojans setting up shop on their 6 yard line,

Tyler Balderas and Connor Windham took their game to another level in win over Beeville.

The Hawk defense knocked their first play for -5 yards which set up a safety on the next play that started the action on this Thursday night.

On CL’s first drive, Ethan Schedlbauer, with a 32 yard run had the Hawks on the Beeville 6 yard line with Bade Holland running it in from the 3 yard out and lead, 8-0.

Enter more Hawk defense that had the Trojans unable to get off or out of their horse after gaining two yards on their 3 plays before a 25 yard punt.

Then a 53 yard Tyler Balderas dash to the end zone that had the Host team with a 14 point lead with just 10 minutes of play.

Balderas’ run was lightning fast as these Trojans would be futile running with their armor on in trying to catch and tackle this player.

“I love playing football and I have dreamt about playing all the time and having a run like that,” Balderas said when responding to his 53 yard run. “I have really good vision and that helps me know when to move on the field and when I got in the open it let me know on when to have that extra boost.”

Balderas continued his dissertation on his running style, “There was one player that had an angle on me so I just made my step behind and that helped me get past him.”

On how this team will respond as the season continues? “We are going to come back super strong and beat the crap out of people.”

This two play drive had Canyon Lake in the driver’s seat on their own Trojan horse and eventual win.

The Hawk’s defense blew up this Trojan team in that first half after allowing 12 yards on 17 offensive plays.

First Half Drives for the Trojans:
       1) 2 plays for -6 yards and a safety.
       2) 4 plays for -1 yards and a punt.
       3) 4 plays for 2 yards and a punt.
       4) 4 plays for -3 yards and a punt.
       5) 4 plays for 8 yards and turned the ball over on downs.
       6) 6 plays for 12 yards then halftime.

Connor Windham was one of many Hawk defenders that spent most of their time on Beeville’s side of the offensive line.

“Penetration will kill the slot,” Windham said in response to how well the defense controlled this game. “That just continue to fluster them.”

On how this team will continue this momentum for the season? “Another win and we will come back harder next week and just keep doing it!”

That will be a good way of staying undefeated and continue a run of district championships.

Canyon Lake JV will be back in action at the Hawk Nest next Thursday when Jourdanton comes calling.

Way to Go Hawks!!
