Hawks End Game with Jourdanton Discombobulated in Loss, 38-24
Canyon Lake got discombobulated in their loss to Jourdanton in a game filled with mistakes and confusion as the contest looked like CL’s games on days when the Comal County Fair was in full bloom, 38-24.
This year, the Hawks, had solved playing games on weeks that this fair would have been and then the Covid pandemic cancelled this event anyway.
All that accomplished was having, The Lake moving up that day of playing confused, to September 18th instead. Same result as the Hawks had a 4-8 record playing on fair day.
“Too many mistakes,” Head Coach Charley Drum assessed. “We will have to learn from it and just realize that not everything goes your way.”
Coach Drum continued, “Our defense came out of halftime and did a good job but a blocked punt before half and 3 fumbles in the second half it just wasn’t our night.”
After CL drove to the Indians 14 yard line to start the 2nd Half, a Dalton field goal tie tied the score, 24-24.
A defensive stop on Jourdanton’s next possession had the Hawks in good shape starting on their own 37 yard line. But the rest of this half would be filled with fumbles and penalties.
Penalties were sprinkled into that final quarter and a half and the Hawks, would fumble on their third play in their next drive.
Another Hawk good defensive effort would have CL throwing their first interception of the year on their next possession.
After an Indian score, Canyon Lake had a Shayne Moss 75 yard run on their first snap after going down 7 points but a never quit defensive backfield was able to knock the ball loose for a touchback.
Game-Set-Match after another Hawk fumble and being down 14 points had time running out with more penalties to add to their misery. That would finish the game with an off date before being back in action on the road in Blanco.
District 13-4A will be a short 3 weeks away and hopefully some of those injuries will be healed as CL started this contest with the Hawk’s leading (Jesse Horner) rusher on the bench with a slew of other running backs in that same coral.
Moss had his first start due to those short comings and finished this game with 243 yards that tied him with Zach Henshaw for 5th place for all-time rushing games.
Still a lot to play for and time to finish strong. Go Hawks!!
