Canyon Lake will finish their non-district schedule against a long standing foe in Blanco.

              Let’s Go Hawks!!

The Hawks have won their last four battles with the CL’s defense holding the Panthers to a total of 14 points or fewer with two games being a shut-out in those contests.

Blanco will enter this year’s game sporting a 4-1 record and has turned up their offensive production in those contests averaging 45.2 points per outing.

Quarterback Baylor Smith is the straw that stirs the Panthers drink with averaging 65 yards passing per game and when Smith wants, has accumulated 373 rushing.

Devin Newsome’s 272 yards rushing will be the go-to back when Smith hands off and is averaging 7.6 yards per tote.

Running back Jackson Cress rounds out the starting gang with 270 yards giving the threesome a combined 915 yards gained.

The Panthers has 3 other backs with over 100 yards amassed showing a good number of players to help in Blanco’s rushing game.

Blanco has averaged 7 passing plays per game so a game that resembles Canyon Lake’s offense which has been a constant through this series. Especially after the Hawks adopted the slot-t offense game play back during the 2013 season.

This has been a defensive bout for the most part as this series has had 7 games where both teams finished with 21 or fewer points. Last year, The Lake won, 10-0 resulting in the 2nd lowest combined score since the Hawks started playing in 2008 season.

That lone Panther loss was the only game with their opponent scoring more than 9 points. Blanco presently are on a 3 game streak of keeping opponents below 10 points in those battles.

Canyon Lake’s lowest output was the 22 points scored against Wimberley that opened the season. The Hawks will need to reduce those turnovers which was a main reason for coming up short in the loss to Jourdanton two weeks ago.

Canyon City Grill says Go Hawks!

Penalties will be another stat the Hawks will need to control as that hurdle, on many occasions, becomes a hindrance in gaining first downs that continues drives and scoring opportunities.

Canyon Lake is averaging right at 100 yards per game through the air and 375 in the ground game. Six Hawks have passed the 200 yard rushing plateau and Jeremy Greene leads all receivers with 188 yard and 3 touchdowns.

The off week should help the Hawks in mending those injuries which has cut deeply into the running back stable this season. This team had an abundance of runners and that has helped in not decimating that part of the offense for the most part.

Simple game for winning will be reducing those turnovers and getting the Hawk defense back in a groove that has been lost especially in these past few outings.

A short drive and don’t forget the game will be broadcast by CLB and come back to The ReSporter for a link, just in case you might not be able to make the trek.

Go Hawks and Beat the Panthers!!
