A rough week for Canyon Lake after an overtime loss to Blanco in Football and not many wins from Volleyball and Tennis.
The Volleyball ladies will have a huge game this week in Bandera with a win going a long way in cementing a Hawk berth in this year’s post-season.
There are two teams in District 28-4A that are battling it out for those first two spots and 3 schools fighting for the other two invites to the party.
Bandera and CL both beat Fredericksburg in this first round which will give the winner of this Tuesday battle a buffer and a split of those two schools would have The Lake in another playoff time of year.
Fredericksburg will finish this first round against a Wimberley team that has not lost and is top of the heap.
Canyon Lake did win a set at home against the Texans and that can hopefully go a long way in building confidence as the 2nd round of games start on Friday.
Tennis finished their Fall season last week and will now be working on their game in preparing for the Spring season. A lot of improvement for this sport with a very young group that will continue to get better as the hone in on their skills.
Football took a hit last week in coming up short in their game against Blanco. Now, District 13-4A will start in earnest with some thoughts from the non-district results so far.
First: Lampasas looks like the real deal again this season. The Badgers have been idle the past 3 weeks but starting their district contests against Taylor is tailor made for a scrimmage to work out those weeks of no action.
Fredericksburg will have a solid team and could challenge Lampasas but they would certainly still be an underdog based on what has come about thus far.
Austin LBJ is still a wait and see situation but this team did well in those last two games and should be a load for CL for a starting their district alate this week.
Burnet should be a decent hurdle to clear and a clear chance of making a playoff start in one of those 3 or 4 seeded slots.
Canyon Lake has outscored two opponents thus far and that seems to be the only way to get back on track when district starts.
The good news is that all the teams are 0-0 and we are still able to play during this pandemic.
Good Luck and Go Hawks!!
