Baseball: District 28-4A Standings & This Week Schedules/Results
Canyon Lake Baseball has another full slate of games this week starting on Tuesday when Copperas Cove comes to the Hawk Nest.
The District 28-4A Standings are below and Boerne started with an undefeated week and a win over a good team that CL will be facing this week with Cornerstone Christian.
Wimberley along with your Hawks are the other two district partners that coaxed a winning record after a rush of first week contests.
Fredericksburg, Davenport, and Bandera will be looking for their first win this week even tho the Billies did have one tied game during this past week.
Still early in the process with a lot of inning yet to play and CL did have a decent week of action but still need some more bats to come to the cave as the haves are getting separation from the have-nots as far as getting hits.
The team batting average is .325 entering the Tuesday game against a decent 6A school and the Hawk’s defense continued to improve as each game added up. Having those reps will continue to refine a team that ended last year at the top of almost every team stat since the school started 13 years ago.
That 2020 team had the best batting average, best on base percentage, and finish second with a slugging percentage compared to the .397 average the 2009 team had that went to the 2nd round that year.
After 6 games, this year’s club, leads last year’s group in those first two but trail the slugging percentage.
Last year’s group finished with the highest average for runs scored 6.58 per game, hits 7.47 per game, and rbi’s with 4.64 per outing.
During the past 4 years (counting this season) Canyon Lake has continued to improve their defense as each year, The Lake has fielded above the .900 threshold with the best coming last year at a .964 clip.
All this to say that those are some good omens as this season gets going with achieving or improving those goals.
At this writing the Hawks have 5 players with a .400 or above batting average. There are 3 Hawks with an average over .300 so far in this young season.
The season is young enough to have one or two good games at the plate helping raise this average. Having enough players in the line-up with the ability to keep an inning going is paramount when facing a good pitcher.
CL’s is reaching base at a .447 rate which will help when needing to keep a rally going for a knock-out punch.
Below the Standings you will have the schedule for this week and what happened last week.
Another long week for Canyon Lake and a chance to keep these numbers going in the right direction.
Go Hawks!!
