Navarro in Overtime last Tuesday night, 42-37.

Canyon Lake was ahead for most of the game until two and a half minutes was left in the fourth quarter. The contest went into slow motion for the next 20 minutes as both teams battled to the wire.

“Hopefully we will learn some lessons,” Head Coach Jeff Maynard said. “There is really not much you can say….”

The undoing for CL was free throws once again, as the Hawks sank just 15 out of 28 tries.

The Panther comeback was made possible with seven missed free throws in a row by Canyon Lake, in that pivotal fourth quarter drought.

The missed free throw disease did not get cured in time for the hard luck home team. In overtime the Hawks made six of eight free throws, but unfortunately those six points were all the points CL could muster in the extra stanza.

Navarro tried to hand the game to Canyon Lake when the Panthers called a time out after  stealing the ball with two seconds on the clock and a score at 31 all.

The problem was Navarro had no timeouts left to call which gave Canyon Lake a chance to ice the game with two free throws.

You guessed, it…the Hawks could not connect and the game went into an extra three minutes.

Matt Magness finished with 16 points and was the only Hawk to finish in double digits. Magness also connected from beyond the arc twice.

Doug Hubnik finished with three assists while committing just one turnover. The Hawks will need more play like that in their next game this Friday at Boerne.

Canyon Lake will have to regroup fast from this loss as the home team was enjoying a 11 point lead early in the third quarter. In fact, the home team was still up eight points with over four minutes left in the contest.

“We lost a game and it was an emotional loss,” Coach Maynard closed. “This one hurt a lot more.”
