Volleyball: Hawks Finish 3-3 in Wimberley before Losing, 3-0 to Poth

The CL Volleyball team finished their Tex-Test tournament with a 3-3 record before a sweep by Poth on Tuesday losing in 3 sets, 20-25, 15-25, 23-25.

During the Tex-Fest two day tourney, The Lake finished the first day with a 2-1 record that placed the team in the Gold Consolation Bracket on Saturday.
Canyon Lake started that next day with a riveting 2-1 win against the Melissa Cardinals who had a 4-1 record entering this contest.
The Cardinals handled CL easily in that first set, 25-12 after the Hawks had closed the gap to 3 points trailing 12-15. Melissa finished the first set scoring 10 straight points.
Canyon Lake responded with a 25-19 win when Macie Goodson served during a 6 point rally to get enough separation for this tying set that set up a winner take all last set.
In that clinching set, The Lake and Melissa would be deadlocked 9 times during this back and forth battle. CL largest lead was two points, 18-16 before MHS tied it at 21 all, but two kills by Claire Schroeder and one each from Olivia Robinson and Lily Sanders that kept CL in the lead and win, 25-23.
“We had to pick up our energy,” Schroeder said. “We started trusting each other and were able to finish out our ‘want to’ to win this game…we wanted to go after and all out and finish this event.”
Schroeder’s last comment was in regards to how the team responded after that thorough loss to start this game.
“We needed to focus and start talking,” Head Coach Kim Clemons said on what the team did to turn this into. win. “We have to be intentional.”
That was huge comeback and win for the Hawks but that same ‘want to’ was not evident in CL’s loss to Both on Tuesday.

Unforced errors were plentiful as the Hawks accumulated 41 errors and 11 of those came from the serving line.
CL was able to tie the first set (16-16) after starting slow and finding themselves in a 6 point deficit, 9-15 before Goodson served during a 6 point rally that had two kills from Robinson and a block and kill by Addyson Andrews.
During one of those points, Sanders and Emily Pena each had a pancake saves for a point.
That run would be the highlight on this night as the Pirates had enough in their arsenal that kept Canyon Lake on their plank and final plunge into the water.
Things will not get any easier for CL as they will be up against mostly 6A schools in the NEISD tournament starting this Friday.
Madison High School will be that first day of games pitted against Madison at 11:30am, Lee at 2:00pm, and United South starting at 4:30pm.
