CL Girls Beats Bandera with Chance at Playoffs
Canyon Lake holds the keys to the car for the final play-off spot even though they are sitting in fifth place with a 3-6 District 26-3A record with three games left to play. One thing that does not change in this scenario is the need to win every game left on their schedule and the, ‘one down’ and three to go mantra, started last night in the Hawk Gym, when Canyon Lake had one of their most impressive wins in many moons over Bandera, 46-17.
Canyon Lake has now beaten the Bulldogs three games this year and each game the average fan can see improvement.
The first win was a closer than the score indicated victory, 44-29 during the CL Tournament. Canyon Lake had an one point lead at half and outscored the Bulldogs by 14 points in the second half.
This game had eight players getting in the scoring column for a 15 point win.
The second win was on the road and a final, 50-26 outcome. The Hawks had three players in double figures and six players scoring in the game.
On Tuesday night, nine players scored and the defense enjoyed one of their best defensive efforts for a total win.
Ten assists and 15 steals will tell you how dominant the Hawks were on both sides of the court.
Amber Ramsey continues to shine with 11 points and playing a complete game under the basket on both ends of the court.
While Katie Williams will soon be announcing where her block party will be held after this season. Williams continues to reject shots and teaming up with Ramsey with a lethal high-low post offense.
Now, how does this translate for the rest of the season? Canyon Lake has three games remaining. Two of the games are against teams that are in their way for that elusive playoff spot.
If the season plays out like the scenario below, then The ReSporter will get with Coach Gallagher and find out what happens when three teams finish third…should be interesting.
Looking at the form below, two events are paramount for a playoff chance. One assumption being that Boerne and Navarro will not lose to any other teams. Based on district results up to this point, this assumption is pretty solid.
- Wimberley plays Fredericksburg at home and will need to win that game. A loss will all but clinch third place for Fredericksburg. Even with the Billies ending with two losses to Navarro and Boerne, Fredericksburg will have a 7-5 record and Wimberley will be hard pressed to beat Navarro and Boerne to take a one game lead over Fredericksburg. A Wimberley tie with Fredericksburg would give the Billies a spot based on a tie-breaker. (Billies would of beaten Wimberley twice in district play)
- Canyon Lake has to win the final three games, with the toughest part being a road game in Fredericksburg.
