Softball Prepares for District Opener

The CLHS Softball team just finished 4-2 at the Blanco tournament this past weekend and now find themselves looking at District play this Tuesday, March 7th.

The tournament showed the team where they are in terms of overall strength and based on the record the Hawks might have some surprises for some unsuspecting opponents this time around.

The Hawks have not been a team that has struck fear in the hearts of their opponents, and that in the long run might be the one item giving this team a mental edge.

In the last two years the Hawks have a 5-17 record in the district and all five of those wins are against teams that are longer playing in the same district.

The numbers below reflect what the Hawks have done up to date compared to the whole season last year….I think you will be impressed.

Stats –  Last Year – This Year (to date)
Total Runs Scored – 54 –  84
Total Hits  – 117 – 112
Runs Batted In  – 47 –   52
Doubles –   13  – 19
Triples  – 4  –  2
Base on Balls –  34 –  42
Stolen Bases – 35 –      29

The numbers speak for themselves and the Hawks have 11 more games to play.

The team has a better average, more power, more speed, has the ability of getting on base, etc…etc…etc…

Your Hawks were shut out eight games last year compared to one game this season. The team doing those honors was powerhouse Poth. The 9-7 team has three of their losses to this same team and you can even draw some strengths from those losses.

The first game Canyon Lake was beaten 19-0 to Poth, in the other two games in the recent Blanco tournament the Poth team had to fight to stay ahead of the upstart Hawks. The two losses this past weekend was just by three runs combined, 4-3 and 7-5. Much different from the 19-0 pasting the team took earlier this year.

Hitting has improved with eight players batting over .300 and with the 42 walks, CLHS has more players on base giving them the opportunity of crossing home plate.

The team does have things that still need to be worked on….fielding comes to mind. Still too many errors and if that number can be reduced, then you have a team that can threaten for a playoff spot this season.

Upcoming Schedule:
March 8 Boerne 6pm @ Borne
March 11 Bandera 6pm @ CLHS
March 18 Wimberley 3pm @ CLHS
