Hawk’s JV Get Buried after Mistakes, 35-14
CLJV driving for a 2nd Quarter touchdown in loss to Wimberley.
Wimberley Junior Varsity took care of Canyon Lake in a similar fashion as their previous season after capitalizing on Hawk mistakes and losing, 35-14.
To start the season both teams looked to be working out their kinks as the first period finished without a score from either school.

CLJV did out gain the Texans after taking most of the quarter up on a 16 play drive that died out after The Lake penetrated to the 22 yard line. This drive stalled after two consecutive plays of negative yardage which was highlighted by an 11 yard sack and leaving the Hawks needing 27 yards for a first down which resulted in a CL 9 yard punt.
Wimberley did not waste anytime with a 3 play drive that covered 71 yards by air (29 yards) and foot (42 yards) and a first score that was one play into the 2nd stanza.
It was still a boxing match with both teams exchanging blows and that had The Lake finally able to move 37 yards thanks to two explosive plays, 11 yard run by Kaiden Lewis and 19 yard jaunt for James Garza that went to the one yard line.
Ryder Hopper took that last scoring step 3 plays later for a score and one point deficit, 7-6 after the run failed on CL’s extra point try.
Wimberley was able to score once again with 20 seconds on the halftime clock on a 20 yard pass on a 3rd and 15 yards needed for a first resulting in a, 13-6 deficit.
Starting the 2nd half, had a good kick-off return by Rand Ahlman and Canyon Lake setting up shop on Wimberley’s 38 yard line.
Four plays later, The Lake, had a first and goal on the 10 yard line but a 5 yard loss on a second down run put CL in a hole and losing their chance on an incomplete pass on 4th down.
Then the home team’s next drive would spell doom going 90 yards in 4 plays and an exclamation point 73 yard pass play for an important two score lead, 21-6.
Christopher Taber was wild defensive player in Hawk game with the Texans.
Wheels started falling off the Hawk cart early in the 4th quarter after CL was able to force a punt with a first play fumble that was returned 21 yards for a clinching TD, 27-6.
But fumbleitis was still prevalent when another lost fumble on the kick-off had Wimberley needing one play on a 31 yard pass and a fold up the tents touchdown, 35-6.
Canyon Lake was able to score on their next drive going 54 yards when Garza went up the gut and scored from 21 yards and the final score of the evening. Garza led the Hawks rushing for 76 yards but not enough offense to match the passing for these Texans.
Canyon Lake will open their home schedule against Fredericksburg next week with the kick-off after CL’s Freshman game.
