CL Hawk’s Freshman Lose Heartbreaker to Texans, 22-21

CL Hawks Freshman Offensive Line have a good plow grading play in game with Wimberley.

The Hawk Freshman Football lost a heartbreaker to Wimberley as the home team pulled out a squeaker when scoring with 3:31 on the clock.

              Let’s Go Freshman Hawks!!

“We made a lot of mistakes,” Coach Javarius Smith said. “We will learn how to handle adversity!”

Mistakes would spell doom for The Lake as that 2 play drive was set up when the punt was mishandled and set the Texan’s up with a short 34 yard drive that was automatic after a first play 32 yard pass play and then 2 yard run.

A two point conversion would give WHS a one point win.

Jace Morales had a memorable day with the best opening game for any Freshman team gaining 196 yards on 12 carries for a lofty 16 yards per tote.

Two explosive plays had Morales going untouched for 47 yards leaving 4 seconds before halftime and a Hawk, 13-6 lead.

CLFr scored first when they drove 27 yards and Cash Ziemba took that final yard for an end of first quarter lead, 7-0. This was the second drive for the Hawks who did open the game with a drive to Wimberley’s 16 yard line threw an incomplete pass for what was the only pass for the Hawks in this game.

The Texan’s got their score after CL’s first tally on a 4th down play 16 yard pass. CL had moved the home team back 12 yards after reaching the Hawk 4 yard line but that pass paid dividends for the score.

                 Go Hawks & Fly High!!

Coming out of their halftime talk, The Lake, could not get any traction after a Texan defense that came out of the halftime with CL’s play book and giving up only 5 yards on those first 3 plays.

After a 24 yard punt, Wimberley would secure a one point lead when they drove 47 yards in 4 plays with a scoring run covering 36 yards and then converting their two point pat for a, 13-14 lead with still time in the 3rd period.

In fact, CLFr took 3 plays when Morales came alive with a pin-ball machine run down the field covering 68 yards to Wimberley’s 9 yard line.

Then a 2 yard run by Eli Hammons and next a 7 yard touchdown run by Isiah Eureste who had the honors for scoring the two point conversion and taking a CL lead back, 21-14.

     Hawk Proud

CL’s next drive, after holding Wimberley again, went to the 18 yard line but an offsides penalty would help the downfall for this set of plays leaving a misplayed snap on a punt attempt and setting up Wimberley’s clinching touchdown drive.

The Hawk’s Eureste plays a lot of different positions as his #56 indicates offensive line and defensive end…but running out of space on a roster print-up could also add fullback to those positions.

“That was our first loss in our first high school game,” Eureste saiid succinctly. “We worked as hard as we can but we could not stop that inside run and every time they ran inside we needed to get to their QB but when we get down we need to pick ourselves back up and we will keep working on it.”

Not many losses during those middle school seasons and now a chance to see how well this group can make a statement when they open their home schedule next Thursday starting at 5:00pm against Fredericksburg.

Get’em Next Time &  Go Hawks!!
