CL Hawks Pound the Bulldogs with a Sweep!
Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team were good enough to pull off their 2nd District 27-4A win against Bandera as this year’s campaign heads down that final stretch to seeing which 4 teams will qualify for post-season.
The Lake have 2 more games and will only have a chance to play spoiler with Boerne this Friday and their last game against Wimberley.
A Hawk win over Boerne would officially knock the Greyhounds out for a chance to make the playoffs. The whole district is chasing Davenport as their are 4 schools with 4 losses and based on that school’s bye week either have 6 or 7 wins.
All that aside, Canyon Lake took care of business beating the Bulldogs in a game that had each team with some rally streaks but in the end it was CL that placed each final set with a run resulting in this sweep.
The Lake started the first set rushing to a, 12-5 advantage and then the Bulldogs put their offense in gear taking a three point lead, 18-15. That Bulldog run was a 13-3 dominating run.
The Hawks used a Maddie Olberholtzer service resulting in a 5 point rally that had your host team with a lead that was stretched in a 4 point victory, 25-21.
Canyon Lake played their best complete set in that 2nd battle and worked an 11 point win, 25-14.
In that third set it started with Bandera taking a quick lead, 4-2 but another Olberholtzer 4 service rally had the Hawks flying higher, 7-5.
This set would become a nail-biter after CL led, 14-9 and Bandera responded with a 6 point rally and two point lead, 16-14.
The lead was a back & forth affair until a final 5 point rally and 3rd set final, 25-22.
Claire Schroeder was the server that had CL overtaking a one point deficit trailing Bandera, 21-20 and finishing with a 5-1 blitz, 25-22.
“Bandera has always had a scrappy team ever since I have been coaching at Canyon Lake and that was no different tonight,” Head Coach Kim Clemens recalled. “It was great to get that final set for the sweep.”
==============================
The Hawk JV had a close loss to Bandera as those first two sets had each team with a dominant game before going to the wire in that final set losing, 25-22.
CLJV worked back from a 8 point deficit being down, 13-5 and then the Lake broke the dam and made this final set go to the brink after tying it up as 24-24.
But ran out of gas at the end in this disappointing loss. Brooklynn Andrews that two consecutive kills to tie the set.
It was exciting but just short.
Canyon Lake’s Freshman swept the Bulldogs, 25-15 & 25-23 and taking these Dogs to the Pound! Congrats Ladies.
