Canyon Lake Softball has had a rough start during the Comal Classic after finishing the first two days sporting a 1-3 record.

                    Way to Go Hawks!!

At this time last season the Lady Hawks was having a successful start in a Navarro Tournament and playing teams that were in their league skill set wise.

For this Comal Clash you are playing larger schools and many times a smaller school will suffer when put into this type situation.

The ReSporter was thinking if Canyon Lake (the school) wanted to sponsor a tournament on their own then these schools would not have come since those marque Comal schools (Smithson Valley & Canyon) would not be the ointment bringing teams wanting a chance to play  a higher up tourney.

Hence 3 losses and that one win was against Alamo Heights, 8-6 on Friday.

In that win  CL had 12 hits and 4 of those added up with 3 doubles (Shelby Porter-2 & Gabby Barnes-1) and one triple off the bat of Alysa Johnson.

Porter knocked in two runs and finished the game going 3 for 3 at the plate.

                        GO HAWKS!!

Madison Hartman passed Kirsten Jones after securing her 17th sacrifice bunt for her career. No small feat because doing those little things will always add up with positive results.

Porter has powered 3 home-runs thus far in these first 4 games and one of her doubles against Alamo Heights even had Coach Galloway needing a quick get-a-way trying not to get hit by her screamer….it was smoked.

“That was one of the hardest hits I can remember since being here at Canyon Lake,” Head Coach Galloway exclaimed. “It was smoked!!”

Barnes entered the game relieving Rianna Gonzales by pitching the final 3 frames and striking out 7 Mules for this win.

One more day before the Hawks can take inventory as more evenly matched games on the schedule will be able to give, The Lake,  a chance to see where and how they stack up with similar competition.

Let’s GO HAWKS!!
