Hawk’s Go Down, 5-4 in Loss to Davenport

Canyon Lake is now in last place after their 2nd loss in district play against Davenport. Both schools had entered this game being shut-out in their opener and now after the 2nd round of games has Boerne at 2-0 and CL at 0-2 and the rest of the district is knotted up with one win and one loss.

The Bad News is having the Hawks with a road game on Thursday in Boerne and with another loss having to acquire a big shovel to dig out of this hole.

The Lake jumped out to a decent 4 run advantage after that first inning but could only muster one more run in those next 8 innings and losing on a 2 run homer from Davenport for a win in a game that went extra innings after a Griffen Williams home run that tied the score in the 6th inning.

It was Williams who started this season going his first 36 at bats without seeing one of those hits going over the fence…since that time this Swatter has clobbered 5 homers on his last 12 at bats with a career total that hit the 20 homer plateau. This game also saw Williams pass one of the oldest records on the All-Time list after hitting a double it was his 20th and that passed Coach Travis Walker’s 19..

All three areas led to this defeat with an error that opened the door for a 3 run 2nd inning and that brought CL’s 4 run lead back down to a manageable 1 run deficit for the visitors.

The Wolves only needed one hit in their 3 run frame and a 2 out Davy double contributed the their next two runs and their lead in the 4th stanza, 5-4.

Griffen Williams then responded with his 5th homer of the season to tie the score in the 5th inning. Brayden Welch had an infield hit in that same at bat but was left stranded. That would be the last Hawk hit for the afternoon.

The game against 5th Ranked Greyhounds will have the first pitch at 6:00pm with a win desperately needed in this sinking ship.
