Sometimes a throw to first is harder than to a catcher. Hawk’s win, 5-1 and sweep the Texans.

The Hawks swept Wimberley Texans, 5-1 which kept Canyon Lake one game ahead of Davenport’s after a win over Boerne.

Way to Make it Count Hawks!!

“We had plenty of chances and Hunter executing the hit and run was big and he is good at that and even if he misses you got Chase taking 2nd and he has some speed and that gives us some options,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla stated on what he thought was a key moment in this victory. “We still have two games left and we have to finish!”

District 27-4A will be going into their final week with a final home regular season contest against Bandera on Tuesday.

In this win over WHS, the Hawks took an early one runlead but a solo home run off the bat by Wimberley’s Patek in the 4th inning tied it all up.

But that would be all the damage the Texans could muster after another gem of a pitching outing for Luke Roskin while striking out 8 and giving up 5 hits before running hit pitch count to it’s limit.

Griffen Williams was called on to close out this sweep using 5 pitches for the save.

Canyon Lake mustered 6 hits by 6 different players but it was in that 6th inning, The Lake, would score 3 runs while sending 9 players to the plate.

             Get two more HAWKS!!

Griff was first up with a strikeout but the pitch was low and resulted with a first base runner on that passed ball.

Brayden Welch laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt and an error on the play had two Hawks on base.

A Ty Sellers single was next on the menu and that was followed by Roman Gonzales’ walk scoring the first run in this frame.

Travis Parma singled in another run which was followed by a Chase Anderson walk and that scored the final run of this inning.

With a 4 run lead Wimberley would threaten with two base hits in the top of the 7th frame but those Texan’s were left stranded for this Hawk win.

It was good to see the bottom of CL’s batting order being able to rally for those 3 runs and pitcher Roskin with his 2nd solid performance on the mound which helps set those must win game situations as game’s importance rises.

Time for some Ice Cream HAWKS!!

What is known now is Wimberley now fighting for a 4th seed with Fredericksburg while the Hawks still need one win over Bandera or a loss for Davenport to sew up that coveted 2nd place finish.

Wimberley will be finishing their season against Boerne and that will be a tall order for a win. That would leave Freddie with a chance with wins over Davenport.

Just so those over confident Hawk fans get ahead of themselves against a Bandera team that presently is on a 10 game losing streak.

The Baseball gods can always pull out some surprises (this is high school baseball) and CL can’t get ahead of themselves.

The Hawks don’t have to dig deep into their past with two examples of  seeing anything that can happen.

Going back to that first district game with the Billies, where CL was manhandled, 6-0 should help realize that putting on a uniform does not mean a win…need more?

CL’s first game this year against Bandera was a, 4-2 nail biter and that walk off run in the bottom of the 7th inning in last year’s, 6-5 game over a woeful Bulldog team that had no district wins.

Time to sweep CL’s second foe!!

Let’s Go Hawks!!
