The Lake Hawks laid an egg on their final non-distriict scheduled game  after, the mad as a Hornet.  passed and ran amok over Canyon Lake, 58-16.

                           Go Hawks!!

Good News? Canyon Lake had a first in securing a safety which was the first time having  two safeties in a season. Those 2 points were not a difference maker but now your Hawks will find out if playing this tough schedule before District will hinder or accentuate these Hawks when they strap on their helmets in two weeks.

With a Bye week next, The Lake, will have time to retool and take a deep breath for a chance to defend their district title they achieved last season.

When asked bout this game, Coach Charley Drum commented, “Yeah…they (East Central) played well…they played well last week too and with the numbers (of players) they have…we were down from the get go, but we will get better. Like we said (to the players) everyone is zero and zero starting district and we’re worried bout district 13 now.”

On goals for the next two weeks, “First it’s to get healthy we are obviously banged up and we will fine tune some things that were exposed in the non-district schedule and just getting on a roll like we did last year we were in the same boat as last year when we went into district play with just one win so our kids that played last year knows what it will take. We will be back to work tomorrow and then Monday!”

The Hawks did respond late in the first quarter using 9 plays for 76 yards that closed a 16 point deficit to 9 points after Jayden VanAusdall was good on his point after.

But that one yard TD gain for QB Steven Crowder would turn out to be his only positive rushing snap as Crowder finished this outing being sacked 4 times and losing 30 yards.

The key play for this scoring drive was a Crowder to Rylan Oppelt pass for 25 yards that would set up CL’s one yarder plunge two plays later.

These Hornets scored on their first 9 drives until a high snap late in the 3rd stanza resulted in The Lake’s only score, a safety, in that second half.

                       Let’s GO HAWKS!!

Canyon Lake will have some work to do as the defense continues to have shortcomings with their pass defense in surrendering 255 yards average allowing a 70% completion rate.

Playing larger schools can cause problems when the Hawks need more players that can specialize instead of playing both sides of the ball.

CLHS’ next opponent will be Marble Falls on the road in two weeks and these Mustangs had their first win over Fredericksburg by the same margin as Canyon Lake’s only win over that same Billies team a month ago.

A lot of work in the works as all district schools start their most important part of the season with little room for mistakes.

The good news is finishing this season against 4A institutions which should be a welcome sight for The Lake.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
