Canyon Lake Girls Track Finish Fourth in Blanco Relays

team records as the 2012 campaign commenced at Blanco last Thursday.

When asked if she was encouraged by the opening of the season, Head Track Coach Lacey Lambert exclaimed, “Yes…I am. Our girls times are where we need to be. We have a big freshman group and they are going to help us in the relays.”

Another athlete that should help is Marisa Ellis as the Volleyball/Basketball/Track Athlete continues to add to an impressive first year after moving in from Midlothian last Summer.

Ellis placed first in the High Jump with a jump of 5’2” and a Triple Jump of 34’2.5”, which turned out to be a Canyon Lake record, but not a personal best for this Junior.

“I want to beat my best Triple Jump of 36’11.5” and go to the Regional,” Ellis started. “I was rushing between the high jump and triple jump and doing that did not allow me to set my timing for the two events.”

Ellis, beat her previous best mark for the high jump by four inches.

Ellis’ both events would of won the District Meet last season by two inches for the High Jump and over a foot for the Triple Jump and is now a new standard for Canyon Lake.

Other athletes to finish strong for the first meet, Simmons who finished third in the Discuss with a throw of 83.8 feet and second in the Shot Put, with a heave of 33’6”.

The Shot Put throw by Simmons would of placed second in last seasons District Meet.

Some good numbers as the girls now prepare for their next meet this week about 400 meters from their classes, as the meet will be hosted by Canyon Lake next Thursday.
