A 25 point 3rd Quarter for the Burnet Bulldogs put Canyon Lake in a precarious situation as time seems to be running out with must win games in these next two Fridays for a chance of a post-season bid.

Make a Deposit & Go Hawks!!

This loss put The Lake and Taylor tied for a 4th place seed and the winner of next week’s game between these two will paint what picture this Hawk team will present to their playoff resume.

Burnet used 16 completions covering 22 yards per reception and finished with 353 yards passing which was the worse showing in that category since CL started playing 16 years ago for their pass defense.

The Hawks have notched 4 games this season that this pass defense has now in the top 10 of giving up the most yardage through the air and two of those outcomes (Burnet 353 yds & Fredericksburg 336 yds) rank with the most allowed.

A defining moment happened during the 2nd quarter when CL was hanging on with a one point, 14-13 lead and a Jayden VanAusdall 37 yard punt penned the Bulldogs on their 2 yard line.

                            Go Hawks!!

The next play was a 98 yard pass and run and would be CLHS last lead on this night. This Bulldog team went on a streak of 14 completions and when, the debris was cleared, it saw two teams heading for their halftime with Canyon Lake down 18 points, 14-32.

Canyon Lake took 15 plays that covered 68 yards and then a successful onside kick presented some comeback hope but after 4 plays that ended with an interception had this game in a don’t get anymore players injured scenario.

Caden Rodriguez was 8 yards away (2 yards receiving & 6 yards rushing) from being the first Hawk to reach the 100 yard plateau in both categories in the same game.

Justin Abbott finished his evening with 93 yards on the ground but CL’s weapons could not keep up with a barrage of Bulldogs gathering Hawk Bones at their goal line for a game of fetch.

Canyon Lake will be at Taylor next week and it will be more of the same as these Ducks can fly (pass) anywhere looking for a Lake to swim in.

It will be a must win with CL’s playoff season starting next week as it will be a win or go home already in the cards.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
