Canyon Lake’s Full Steam Ahead after, 27-7 Win Over Uvalde

                                                                    Way to GO LAKE!

Canyon Lake did not start their game against Uvalde firing on all cylinders and showed a stagnant offense and a tied game going into halftime knotted at, 7-7.

Make a Deposit & Go Hawks!!

One explosive play with a 62 yard run for James Garza (who finished with 157 yards) that set up a Gram Simpson 6 yard scoring play but other than that, it would be the Hawk Defense stepping up to allow some breathing room in waiting for this Hawk offense to wake up for a chance to pull off a victory.

CL’s ‘D’ kept this Coyote with 90 yards of offense during those opening two quarters.

After a 3 down and punt to start this battle, Uvalde took over the ball and drove 40 yards to the Hawk’s 27 yard line when Mr. Interception (Tristan Alexander) had another interception with a 25 yard return that set up shop at the 65 yards from the end zone.

Garza ran for 62 yards looking like a California surfer trying to beat a breaking wave to pay dirt. That wave did catch up but not before reaching the 3 yard line. Gram Simpson would do the honors for that first score and Hawk, 7-0 lead.

That would be the only fireworks during this first half with CL having anemic results:

3rd Drive: Fumble 5 yards
4th Drive: Fumble 65 yards (Explosive 36 yard catch for Carter Williams)
5th Drive: Punt 27 yards

Defensively Canyon Lake continued to harass the Coyote QB with:

7 Pressures (based on forcing the QB to move and not stay set in the pocket)

                     Way to GO HAWKS!

1 Sack (Jaxon Ammons for a loss of 16 yards)
2 Tackles for Loss (TFL)
2 Scrambles
1 Incompletion
1 Completion

On the difference between the two halves, Head Coach Sam Parker assessed, “Yeah they (Hawk Offense) played great in the second half…we always take pride that we are a four quarter team and part of that four quarters is the second half and making sure we come out and play more of our brand of football in the second half and I thought they did a good job….Defense as usual stood up huge and got the big turnovers and then obviously scored on that pick six which was huge and I felt like that probably what turned the scales in our favor.”

Coach Parker continued, “The defense keeps showing up each week and there can’t be enough said for those guys!”

That second half had the Home Team with the ball and that’s when the momentum would be seized by the Good Guys when Defensive Back Jacob Price had his pick-six covering 45 yards and CLake back with a lead that would not be threatened again, 14-7.

“I didn’t know I was that open and just ran as fast as I could to the end zone,” Price said eloquently.

The Hawk Defense would produce a 3 down and punt sequence next time out and hold the Coyotes the rest of this half:

1st Drive: Interception *Jacob Price Pick 6
2nd Drive: 3 plays Punt
3rd Drive: 4 plays Punt
4th Drive: 2 plays Fumble (recovered by Michael Anderson)
5th Drive: 5 plays INT Tristan Alexander (2nd of game)
6th Drive: 4 plays Game

With this win, Canyon Lake, will start working on another playoff streak after missing that opportunity last season.

Two games remain against Davenport (presently 1st in District) at home and then Pleasanton on the road to end regular season.

Now Canyon Lake will have a well deserved break with a bye coming up for a chance to get some needed rest and players back. On what this means? Coach Parker surmised, “That’s huge…it has been 8 straight weeks…really 9 straight weeks counting the scrimmages so this will be huge and getting our quarterback and everybody back and going into Davenport (game) with full steam ahead.”

Let’s GO LAKE!!
