Coaches Corner: Girl’s Track Lacey Adkisson

The ReSporter has taken some results from previous track meets among the District 26-3A teams and based on the distances and times put a point total for each team. We then compared last year’s District meet against the best times for this years group.

Last Years District Track          Best for this Year (all meets)
1. Fredericksburg   222          1. Fredericksburg 207
2. Ingram              116                2. Canyon Lake     98
3. Bandera              96                 3. Bandera            96
4. Wimberley          79                4. Wimberley        87
5. Canyon Lake       59               5. Navarro            46
6. Boerne               44                  6. Boerne             38
7. SA Hawkins       29

ReSporter: The numbers above represent a great increase between the two years. How do you feel about the team so far this season?

Coach Adkisson: “We have five athletes that have returned this season from last years track team that qualified for regionals. Now with the experience and determination to better our performances this season and that, mixed with an energetic freshman class has made for a very competitive season.”

ReSporter: Last year you beamed about the upcoming Freshman class…has that enthusiasm materialized?

Coach Adkisson: “Yes, I have several freshman on varsity this season that are going to contribute to our point totals at the district meet and will do great things at Canyon Lake during their four year career.”

ReSporter: We also did research between last years District meet and how the athletes have performed this year:

After looking at the numbers above, how do you feel the team will improve?

Coach Adkisson: “We have more girls out this season than before, so we have more girls in more events at the district meet than the last two years. They have experience now and they are going out there everyday to beat their times, jumps, and throws whether it is in practice or in the meets. With a talented freshman class I believe it pushes the upperclassman a bit more so they can secure their spot in their events.”

ReSporter: “Last year the 4×400 Relay improved 24 seconds from the first meet to the last run….do you see the potential for the same type of improvement from this years relay team?”

Coach Adkisson: “After this week in Dripping Springs, YES!!! We dropped five seconds this last week and hope to take more off at district. We have dropped 14 seconds since week one. The girls saw the improvement this week and are ready to run at the district meet.”

ReSporter: Thanks Coach, good luck as you prepare the team for District meet.
