Volleyball: Hawks Get First District Win, Beat Bandera

Canyon Lake wins first District 27-3A Volleyball game against Bandera last Tuesday night on the road.

The Hawks won this match in five games in a topsy turvy manner. Winning the first two games of the match, then following that with two losses.

Going into their fifth game after losing the last two games had to be nerve racking.

“Last night we had our eye on giving us a chance at playoff and we knew that we had to win last night,” Head Coach Nicole Creek started. “The girls were extremely determined going into that game and did everything it took to win.”

This Hawk Volleyball team certainly has the players to put up numbers better then what has transpired as district play has opened up.

The Bandera game was a microcosm of their season. Winning two games and then losing two games and having to fight again for another day.

“Games one and two, we took charge of early,” Coach Creek surmised. “We served them off the court in game two with five Aces and really smart serving.

“In game one we had 11 kills and two aces, so just controlled the game. Game three we just didn’t focus on finishing the game and game four, although we were close, we made six hitting errors and six serving errors and just gave the game away.”

Canyon Lake will now continue their road tour as they invade the flat lands of Navarro on Friday night.

Navarro is the next rung up on the ladder and a win will go a long way in getting Canyon Lake back into playoff mode.

Just like in the match with Bandera, this will be the part of the season that will compare to the fifth game of a match.

“Getting that first win in district was huge and I feel that we are ‘connecting’ really well as a team right now,” Coach Creek finished. “The Girls have there eye on the post season but understand that every game will be a battle. So they have to go in fighting in every game.”

Here is hoping this Hawk team will respond much like they did last Tuesday night and come out with a much deserved victory.
