will have errors in this game along with a team that can exploit a Hawk team repeatedly each season.

This week, Canyon Lake has an early date with Boerne on Thursday with both teams needing a win to enhance their chances of being one of those three teams to make the playoffs.

A loss and then, just like last year, the team that loses will need a lot of help from other teams to have a chance of going on with their season.

It is safe to say that Fredericksburg and Bandera will have another year at the bottom of this district, leaving three playoff spots for four teams.

Going one step further, with Wimberley’s win over CL, the Texans have a very wide lane for a chance to win District 27-3A once again this season.

Navarro beat Boerne already so now this game on Thursday will once again tell us where Canyon Lake will be spending the weeks after their final district game.

The Hawks faced the most balanced team in district last week and now faces a team that passes the ball as their means of churning out real estate in their games.

Boerne has doubled all of District 27-3A teams in yardage via the pass.

This means Canyon Lake will have two parts of their defense on display.

Defensive Back Daniel Camarillo and Isaac Mendez will be counted on week

Defensive Backs and Line, will need to help each other. The Defensive Line can help by applying pressure on Boerne’s quarterback can give CL’s Defensive Backs time to cover, then maybe sacks can occur by having this Greyhounds QB spending more time looking for all of his options.

Here are some scary numbers by Boerne. They average 291 yards per game passing the rock.

In contrast, Canyon Lake has only passed for that number of yards once against Burnet and that was only by nine yards. This is Boerne’s average.

This Greyhound team has completed 35 more passes than Canyon Lake has thrown this season.

Quinten Dormaday is the QB that you will get to know on this Thursday night. He has a 61% completion rate with 23 touchdowns.

Boerne has five receivers with more receptions than CL’s second leading receiver, Doug Hubnik (16), in fact, Daniel Camarillo (29) would be the Greyhounds fifth leading receiver based on number of catches this season.

Paul Burns and Bradley Veselka both have 34 receptions and Burns is leading District 27-3A with 634 yards.

Mark Woodie leads district with a salty 42 catches and Bryce Collins who doubles as their running back has 30 catches and a respectable 316 yards.

If you add Collins rushing and receiving yardage then you will see a player that has accumulated 1103 tandem yards.

Boerne percentage of rushing vs. receiving yards is 28 percent.

Good news? Dormaday is not a running quarterback and has accumulated 27 yards behind the line so far this season. He has only run or been sacked a total of 16 times.

Without knowing the amount of times a scramble or a called running play has been called for Dormaday, then on the surface he runs less than 5 percent of the time.

What is interesting, Dormaday is a Sophomore and if he was a Greyhound quarterback as a

freshman, then Canyon Lake spanked his Freshman team 26-7 last year. That touchdown was after CL had a 26-0 lead in the fourth quarter.

Canyon Lake will need to have a short memory as they shake off their game with Wimberley. There was nothing of value taken from that game.

The Hawks had a similar game against La Grange earlier this year and after that week responded with a win against Fredericksburg.

How will CL respond? That is why they play the game.

Canyon Lake can win if they can control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, a solid line performance can allow CL to possibly have some drive consuming plays in order to keep the volatile Greyhounds offense on their sideline.

Defensively, a solid line can put pressure on Dormaday, then maybe some turnovers might come for a defense that needs some positive results that can change the direction in favor for the Hawks.

Thursday night will feel odd and can also make this week much shorter and harder to get used to.

The good news, is that Boerne will face that same scenario and hopefully the best team will be Canyon Lake.

Besides, we owe them one.
