Hawks even District 27-3A Record in Win over Bandera

J. J. Nance with the Team watching on

The Hawks evened their district record with a walk off single by Michael Brady helping CL overcome a two run deficit in their last at bat.

Canyon Lake had a 3-2 lead starting the third inning but a seventh inning three run rally by the Bulldogs was matched when the Hawks held on for a team that might not have accomplished a game like this in previous seasons.

“Things looked bleak,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant mused. “I don’t know what a come from behind win will do for this club, but last year’s team would not of won this game.

Corey Shedrock who had been injured the past couple of weeks had a pinch hit in that last inning and that was just what the doctored ordered.

That hit was a result of a perfect bunt single on what was set up to be a sacrifice bunt to advance the two runners. This bunt saved an important out and helped lead to the late heroics.

Brady also added a triple to his walk off single resume and has been on a good hitting streak the past few games.

Travis Walker finished with a two hit game while Ryan Hutcheson added two rbi’s and a double in this contest.

There are a lot of little things that might not be noticed, but another game with only a few strikeouts became another key to this win.

J. J. Nance hits a fly ball resulting in a run scoring from third. Last year a CL player had a better chance of striking out, but putting the ball in play helped score the run.

Daniel Camarillo was o’fer in this game but his ground ball out was a productive out in that getting the ball in play also allowed the Hawks to be in a position to win this game advancing a runner to third.

The Hawks are a more lethal team this season with players that can hit down in the batting order.

“Last year we were not as potent down in our batting lineup,” Coach Dunavant said. “Now we can put players further down in the order making it harder on the other team.”

Key hits and just having the ability to keep an inning going are those little things that can have a good result.

Now with a three game winning streak the Hawks will go to work with a game in Wimberley on Friday at 7pm start.
