Mountain Valley’s 8th ‘A’ Team has tough Loss to Navarro, 28-22

Mountain Valley’s 8th ‘A’ team started their engines too late in a loss to Navarro last Thursday night, 28-22.

The first half of this game was a clinic as Navarro scored on two of their three possessions and a defense that allowed MV no yardage for being stuck in the sand.

Mountain Valley only had 11 plays and accumulated 30 yards for a anemic 2.7 yards per play.

Then the Hawks decided to get after these Panthers when they took the kick-off and ran like a panther over the panthers.

First drive of the second half was a 4 play 56 yard drive with Luke Justis dancing down the sideline for a 41 yard run for MV’s first score.

Then, Justis executed a perfect onside kick and catching the Panthers off guard.

This drive went 49 yards when Ben Fulton caught a pass over the Navarro defender for a touchdown and a Hawk first lead, 16-14.

Navarro drove 51 yards which took just 4 plays with the pain in the backside Herrera once again proving to be a tough tackle for MV on this particular day going 23 yards for the score and lead, 16-22.

This boxing match was not over when Luke Justis responded with a beautiful run for 59 yards on a one play drive and tied score after the point after run failed for Mountain Valley, 22-22.

Navarro’s 8th Grade are not undefeated the past two seasons for being a push over and a quick answer was evident when this Panther team took the kick-off to MV’s 22 yard line and an even quicker 3 play drive to reclaim the lead for a final score, 28-22.

A fumble on Mountain Valley’s next try for a score ended the season for the Hawks after this hard fought loss.

Next year will be back soon and both of these 8th Grade Teams will be welcomed at Canyon Lake High School.
