Hawk Basketball Week’s Review & Top Three

Canyon Lake Boys Basketball does not have much time to get their act together for a playoff spot.

There is still a chance for the Hawks to make the High School Dance thanks in part to an UIL ruling that allows 4 teams to qualify from each district.

This week’s game with Wimberley will be pivotal in this quest as a win would put CL in a position to make a statement this year.

The football team pulled off two rounds of playoffs with a losing record, but the difference in these two scenarios was the Hawks finishing 3rd when they finished their district season.

Canyon Lake does have life and with the return of Skyler Tschoepe to the lineup after suffering an injury and mssing two games, the second leading scorer for CL could give a boost to this team.

“Kids are still upbeat and working hard,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “So we are still optimistic.”

In the game with Bandera, Canyon Lake fell in love with their three point shot and ended up having more shots from behind the arc than inside the circle.

Andrew Riali scored 19 points in one of his best outputs this season. Riali made 5 three pointers compared to just one for the rest of the club.

One positive for CL was an 81% free throw shooting, but going to the line only 11 times tells you that there were more shots where contact is seldom made (from 3 point land).

The Wimberley game will be this Tuesday and a strong home crowd will help in giving a boost for this scrappy Hawk’s ball club.
