Hawk’s Track Team will be off this week as they prepare for District 27-3A Meet at Canyon Lake next week

This Week @ Canyon Lake

The Hawks will be testing the first part of this week and so sporting action will commence this Thursday.

Soccer is the highlight for this past week as the upstart CL Hawks almost pulled off a major upset in their game with 5A Boerne Champion.

Regulation ended all knotted up at one apiece and Canyon Lake then ended the overtime period at that same score.

The shoot out was exciting but Canyon Lake lost by a score of 3-4 in that portion of action.

Christy Fowler scored the goal for CL and now with a new district for next season, Canyon Lake will have a legit chance of having a great finish as the district will be made up of 4A schools that are in the same enrollment size.

Wimberley, Boerne, Fredericksburg, and Bandera will be joined with the Hawks for next season.

If that same district was in place for this past campaign, then CL would have had a good chance of finishing on top based on games played before district.

CL beat Fredericksburg (3-0) and Wimberley twice, while playing the team that beat Boerne to a virtual tie.

Bandera was beaten by Wimberley, 7-0 which should give you an idea of how your Hawks would have stacked up for this year.

Congratulations and next year will be a special year.

The Hawk Softball team finally got that proverbial monkey off their back when they won last Friday over Boerne, 10-3.

This team is better than how they started and now have a chance of making a move in District 27-3A play.

CL will be on the road for Thursday (Navarro) and Friday (Fredericksburg)…that Billies game will be the second go around for district and this offensive team has put into place some pieces to a puzzle that has a chance of making a run for playoff spots.

The next home game for this Softball crew will be April 8, when Bandera comes to town.

Hawk’s baseball is tied for second place with Wimberley and will have a home game with Bandera this Thursday and then will play at Bandera on Friday.

Canyon Lake needs to sweep this Bulldog team to take away that taste of the Fredericksburg loss.

Track and Field will not have a meet this week as they will now prepare for District 27-3A Meet here at Canyon Lake in two weeks.

Last week at the Hawk Relays, Canyon Lake had some surprises with a couple of tracksters that put themselves in a prime spot for making Region.

Brandon Courtney and Blake Walker both responded with some top CL times.

Walker had a splendid 200 Meter Dash, when he blazed to a 22.70 time. To put that run in perspective….Jordan Anderson who holds 5 of the Hawks All-Time records, had his best time of 22.47.

Courtney now holds down CL’s best 110 Meter Hurdles, when he ran a 15.62, beating Bobby Flint who had a best of 15.64.

In the 300 Meter Hurdles, Courtney beat the previous best by half a second with a hurdle run of 41.74, besting Karl Tucker’s 42.23.

Canyon Lake’s foursome of Isaac Mendez, Javier Mendez, Shane Relkin, and Brandon Courtney had a qualifying time of 3:30.85 two weeks ago in the 4×400 Meter Relay, and that time catapulted them to Austin for running in the Texas Relays.

That had to be exciting for this team and CL as they finished 24th in their classification.

This year’s Girls Track Team is in first place in all events that have athletes reporting to the Trainers Room.

Yes, this Canyon Lake club has had nothing but bad luck in the injury category and with that are missing many points that these students could of scored.

There are still some surprises from this past week’s results.

Grace Allen pulled out a 27.37 for what is now second best in district with her run.

Bailey Drum also had her best triple jump of the year when she finished over 34 feet and now the Hawks have the 2nd and 3rd best competitors when adding Mariah Ellis to that place.

Ellis is one of those injured Hawks that sat out the Hawk Relays. A side note was watching Haley Melone high jump for her first time ever and having a very respectable height of 4 feet 10 inches. that will also garner points for this team and that was a pleasant surprise in watching last Thursday.

Come out in two weeks and show your support for Canyon Lake when we will be hosting District 27-3A teams.
