The match started with Lockhart scoring their first three points, but that would be their last multiple point outburst for that game, as the Hawks systematically finished off these Lions and their den, 25-12.

In the next two games, CL played multiple lineups while giving their deep bench some game action in winning the next two games, 25-17 and 25-20.

Bailey Drum and Addison Farley both finished with 14 kills on the night keeping the Lions in a tough situation on figuring where that next point would be coming from.

Playing in different positions was common in those last two games as you would need a program to keep up with who was playing where.

Mariah Ellis was one of those players that found herself putting on a different jersey as she scooted to the Libero position while Head Coach Kim Paisley mixed and matched her players looking for different areas to maximize her team.

“That was our plan tonight,” Coach Paisley started. “I was hard on them about playing with perfection on each point….I did not want to see missed serves and wanted to see how they would communicate.”

Canyon Lake did let their guard down in those last two games but they still ended with wins.

“We need to be crisp and we are also working on being more solid,” Coach Paisley kept up her pace. “This game helped us to see where we need to work on things and I am very proud on how they played.”

Senior Ellis was also in harmony with her Coach, “Our team started dying out and we still need to take care of the ball for whoever goes in and communicate.”

Canyon Lake will now brace for another tournament this weekend as they continue to get as many games in that they can before district comes calling in September.

“As long as everyone keeps working on their technique and fixing everything,” Ellis finished. “I’m not saying we will be perfect…but we can be as close as possible, and we will be working on being our best for district.”
