Warriors Have ‘Blahh’ Scrimmage

Bracken Christian ended their preseason scrimmages on a ‘blahhhh’ note as the Warriors went

through the motions in a game with San Antonio New Life.

Both teams were short on having companions for their head coach on the sideline as New Life dressed 7 players while BCS could only muster two more.

New Life started their first series with a 60 yard run that helped up the ante for Bracken to get a game face on.

That would be New Life’s final score of the game.

“We only had 15 offensive plays and scored on four of them,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields started. “To play on this level (High School), the younger players will have to get better and we have three days to get there.”

Bracken was not as sharp as they have been in previous years regardless of the competition and time of year a game was being played.

“We have a lot of work a head of us,” Coach Fields continued. “We will have a very large and very physical team next week and we are not ready to play.”

There were a few bright spots as the Warriors continued to work on their passing game for this year.

Noah Boriack had good passes as well as Brady Beene getting more repetitions at the quarterback position.

Those passes will expand an opponents defense to cover more ground as Boriack used that on one of his long runs as he looked like a slalom skier going through his gates to the bottom of a mountain.

Jeff Camp also seemed primed and ready as he excelled on the defensive side of the ball after that New Life touchdown.

“We mainly need to work on responsibilities for the different positions,” Camp said. “There are no excuses for us, we are a better football team than what you saw tonight.”

Another Senior, Coy Zunker had a costly penalty that brought a touchdown back, but based on how ‘blahs’ the team was playing it seemed a needed boost for the team to get their act together in this scrimmage.

“We were just going through the motions and we had a low intensity,” Defensive Back Zunker interjected. “I will just have to pep talk the guys and try to get them in the game earlier.”

On what this means for their practice this week going into the first game, “We will be practicing to play at our best and max out our abilities.”

Bracken Christian has been a showcase program for a long time and how they perform when the curtain goes up will be the story line for this coming Friday.
