The Canyon Lake JV squad had their game suspended due to lightning at the start of the fourth quarter
Austin Brennan and Dylan Dittman hoping for a 4 quarter game next week in Lampasas
as this game ended in an incomplete contest, keeping their, 3-0 record unblemished on this rain threatening evening.
CLJV actually had a good case of having the lead when this game ended as Wimberley’s only score was a result of a call from an official on a fourth down that was called roughing the punter.
That penalty resulted in a first down and the Texans eventually scored on that drive after converting another fourth down play. Wimberley did take advantage of that miscue and had an impressive drive for their score.
It was a fake punt that a Wimberley snapper missed to their runner and the ball rolled back to the punter. The Punter then had to chase down the ball to pick it up and try to get a punt off rugby style.
Canyon Lake missed the block but the punter was tackled since he ceased to be a punter and was fair game for a defense to tackle.
That play was a big spark for Wimberley as the ‘Replay Officials’ in the Press Box did not have time to communicate to the ground crew that they had messed up that call.
Canyon Lake did score first on their second drive of the game when running back Hayden Reed bulled his way from 5 yards out for a score.
The Hawks extra point went awry and if not for the penalty on the next drive, CLJV would have had a lead going into the game delay.
Austin Brennan and Charlie McIntosh both had 47 yards rushing as the Hawks out gained their friends to the north by 22 yards.
There had been some more players moved up to Varsity and Brennan seemed to relish a chance with more opportunities to carry the rock.
“We practice a lot harder and that motivates you to pick up the pace,” Brennan said cooly. “We just need to work harder and harder and next time we will come through as a team.”
McIntosh’s first play in the second half had a chance of resulting in a score when he darted 47 yards into the open but was caught by a Texan who had an angle on the play.
The Hawks were penalized five yards on this drive, which made a doable three yards for a first to a harder eight yards. The result had Wimberley holding CL on downs and starting with the ball on their 12 yard line.
Defensively, the Hawks had many good plays, but one play The ReSporter noticed was from Defensive Tackle Dylan Dittman when he broke into the Texan’s backfield and chased down the quarterback for a loss.
“I was trying to get through their double team,” Dittman said. “We have to just keep it in our heart and don’t lose and with more repetition and being more mentally prepared then we can get it done.”
On what it took to fight through the double teams, Dittman closed, “God and strength.”
Canyon Lake JV will now travel next Thursday to Lampasas and try to improve on their 3-0 record.
