Hawks JV Go 2-0 in District Play with Win over Navarro JV
Canyon Lake’s JV Boys took an eight point lead and held on for a, 47-39 victory at the Hawk Gym last Tuesday night.
Jacob Ramirez and Heath McDonough both finished with double digit scoring with 13 and 10 point respectfully.
Gerrit Wilkins and Sam Langford were also instrumental in this victory as they dished off some assists while also getting some hustle plays as Navarro was making their move in that second half.
Canyon Lake was being pressed and had lost some of their momentum when Wilkins dove for a ball and while fighting for possession was fouled and two free throws resulted in a shot of offense as the Hawks would finish with a flurry closing out this Panther club.
Wilkins play was all hustle as the unsuspecting Panther did not know what hit him with the bang-bang play.
“My shots weren’t falling and I had to make up for it with defense intensity,” Wilkins said. “It just kicks in (talking about that intensity) or starts bouncing around in my head to kick up that part of my game.”
Whatever that intensity looks like, the whole team got the same kick and finished this game with some good basketball.
Langford also started this game with some good fast break baskets and that was a key in getting a good first quarter and halftime lead.
“We work on fast break drills and work on getting the ball into the right hands,” Langford said breaking for the basket. “We have just been playing basketball forever and we have a good corp of players and we work together very well.”
The Hawk JV team is now 2-0 in district play as they have several players that can step up on any given night to take the lead and keep the game in hand.
Congrats Hawks!!!
