Canyon Lake evened their record with a come from behind win over Burbank in the Comal Tournament on Thursday night, 10-9.

It was a wild game as each team was finding it hard to hold onto the ball with the cold weather.

Another day at the igloo as temperatures started in the 40’s and then into the 30’s with the sunset.

The Hawks would have lost this game last year and another win with a 4 run last inning will certainly help as district season will be upon this team before they know it.

There were still more errors leading to unearned runs, but it was that same type of error that ended the game for Burbank as Corey Shedrock hit a screamer single into left field that ended up going to the wall as an error that cleared the bases for the Hawks and ending the game with just one out.

Gordon McCleary started the inning with a bomb that was caught in centerfield which would be the only out recorded in the inning.

Colton Avey followed with a single then CJ Parrish got his second hit of the night putting two men on with the tying run coming to the plate.

Nick Kissell kept the inning going beating out an infield ball driving in Avey.

Garrett Winters worked a seven pitch at bat for a walk when Shedrock would take just one pitch to end the game.

“I was just waiting for my pitch,” Shedrock said matter of faculty.

Shedrock was also back in the infield in an effort to shore up some fielding holes.

“We need to learn from our mistakes and I will just go where Coach tells me to,” Shedrock closed.

Kissell was also called on in that last inning to get some more pitches in and helped with his offense keeping the last inning rally going.

“It was just good to be out there,” Kissell said while he has been resting some soreness. “We

had a good comeback and that type of game will help us.”

Another good sign is seeing big man Avey starting to find himself in the batter’s box.

“I have been working hard in the cages with Coach D,” Avey spoke in code. “He has taught me some things and now I am finding my rhythm and I feel more confident when I step in the box….I am just trying to get my bat on the ball.”

Sounds like a simple game until you have to put all those intricacies in motion on the field and perform in the clutch.

McCleary got the win for the Hawks as they will continue play with two more games on Friday.
