Head Coach Charlie Drum
The ReSporter: You always here that the best improvement for a team comes between the first and second week of games. What will you be working on this week to see if the team is getting better?
Coach Drum: “Team speed and athleticism stuck out for me. Using some offensive players on defense has definitely helped in those two areas.”

Hawks Storm into their season with a 38-0 Whitewash over Blanco (mjrphotog.com)
It took 10 years for Canyon Lake to shut out Blanco as the Hawks started their season blanking Blanco, 38-0.
“This was a total team effort,” Head Coach Charlie Drum stated. “Having our back-ups in the game and still not allowing a touchdown shows that everyone was giving their best effort.”
The Defense was shut-down ready from start to finish as the Panthers were able to amass just 7 first downs with out the help of a flag, ending with 9 for the game.

Canyon Lake’s JV squad started their season smelling like a rose after scoring a 16-14 win over Blanco JV.

Clay Weber and Connor Rose after win over Blanco, 16-14
“This looked like it was our first game of the year,” Head JV Coach John Barthels stated. “We did respond in the second half and our last drive wore them down and our kids played hard.”
There was certainly some rust on both sides of the ball as offense was not a thing of beauty when both teams retired for their halftime talk and the Hawks having a 37 to 34 lead in yardage gained.
Clay Weber was one of many Hawk defenders that helped shut down the Panthers.
“We just got after it,” Weber surmised. “We came out with a higher mentality and we just get better with more stops and turnovers for our next game.”
