Canyon Lake scored in the first 14 seconds of their game with Gonzales and made that lead stand-up in another win and a berth into the Sweet 16, after this win over a strong Apache squad, 4-3.
“This was a team effort,” Head Coach Warren Graham said. “We had our formation start in our middle school program….almost all of these players came up through Coach (Duane) McBride at Mountain Valley.”

Boys Soccer | Comments Off on SWWEEEEEETT 16, Hawks Win, 4-3 over Gonzales

Rory Preiss finished his Hawk Career high in several categories.
The ReSporter was asked to print the Final Basketball All-Time Stats for the Boys and Girls teams.
So, your wish is The ReSporters command.
It was a good year for the round ball teams and the ladies look to be primed for a break out season next year while the Boys have laid a good foundation for continuing their climb to respectability.
Each year will have surprises but continuing the climb that has been seen these past few years has been a sight not seen on the Boys Hardwood courts ever.
The Ladies did have some problems this year but with a very young club and another year of honing in their skills will certainly be a fun time when the late Fall season arises and the season can start in earnest.
Thanks for those Seniors that have been a part of these past few years and the Hawk Nation wishes you the best as you prepare for the next field goal.

Jaren Marmolejo is ready to go the distance.
The Boy’s Track Team both hit triple digits against larger schools last Thursday in Lockhart Lion Relays.
The Junior Varsity scored 129 points, finishing behind Killeen and Canyon High School. CL’s Varsity beat Canyon High School while Killeen ran away on this night with 180 points.
“I thought that the Lockhart Meet went just as we would hope. We are starting to see improvement on almost every effort,” Head Coach Troy Moses stated. “This is what we want as we approach the district track meet. Everything we do all year is to make sure we are competing at our best come the district meet. I am very confident right now as the district meet is only 5 days away.”
Cody Kline and Heath McDonough were high point makers with 22 and 23 respectfully. Caimen McDonough just missed out on passing his brother and Greyson Lee was second for the JV squad.

Junior Skylar Hurst after tough day on Cinders
CL Lady Hawks finished 3rd with the Junior Varsity and Varsity in Lockhart last Thursday as Canyon Lake and Gonzales were the only schools that were below 5A in size for the 7 team meet.
That will go a far way as the Hawks now start preparing for District 28-4A next Wednesday and Thursday.
Freshman Madison Churbe would finish high point for the Varsity while Elena Vargas would finish at the top for the JV crew.
This Meet had a different format than previous track & field get togethers….the Girls had their running events while the Boys were busy in their Field Event mantra.
That made those events involving running having a much smaller window of rest which would be detrimental for having personal bests.

Trenton Lorett in a battle for a Hawk Win over Salado, 2-1 (photo Lynne Carpenter)
It was not an April Fool’s Win for CL Hawks Boys Soccer after taking the second round game from 4th Ranked Salado at Manor High School last Friday night, 2-1.
This was by far the biggest win in any sport up to this point in Hawk history as the Boy’s Soccer team is only in their second year of qualifying for the playoffs and after drawing a bye for the first round would then have to lock horns with the State Ranked Salado Eagles.
How good was Salado? Their 2 losses coming into this contest was against a 6A Harker Heights school and an undefeated private school called KIPP Austin.

CL Hawks continue their climb into the light of day as their loss showed that better things might be on the horizon after a tough loss to Fredericksburg, 4-3.
“Our effort was outstanding and I think they are finally getting it,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant started. “The young guys are feeling comfortable and are laying a good foundation…..we’re still young and we just needed a couple of breaks.”
The Billies started first with 3 singles in the first with an error thrown in for seasoning and Canyon Lake started in a hole, 2-0.

Canyon Lake continues their chase for District 28-4A supremacy after squeaking out a win over Fredericksburg, 4-3 at the Hawk Nest Friday night.
“This was our best defensive game we have played,” Head Coach John Gallagher fielded. “All we did this past week was hitting and defense….they hit 150 times in the batting cages and they fielded ground-balls all week long.”
The Hawks started this battle with a good offense as the bottom of that first inning had consecutive doubles by Maddy Puente and Lauren Mentzer after Bailey Bryan started the fireworks with a single.

Catcher Lee Stafford throws out 2 Owls on winning night
Canyon Lake won a must win game at home after scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th inning with a final of, 3-2.
“This win was huge for us,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant said. “Guys are starting to come around and believe in themselves. We played well against Hondo at their place minus a couple of critical mistakes…So we knew we could win.”
Hondo struck first scoring a run in the top of the 2nd inning after a lead off single and then two batters later a double had the Owls looking good.
With just one out and a batter on 2nd a fly-out to Parker Reno in centerfield and then the last out came from a foul ball behind home plate to end the inning.

Chloe Cullen is ready to kick the playoff season off this Friday in Manor (mjrphotog.com)
Canyon Lake Soccer teams will be sharing the field this Friday at Manor High School as the Hawks will be going against Salado’s boys and girls teams in the second round of playoffs.
Both Hawk teams won their warm-up scrimmage last week as the CL district drew a bye for the first round of contests.
“The warm-up game went well,” Head Girls Soccer Coach Ryan Tierney said. “We played La Vernia for a 3rd time and had a great result beating them 5-0. Alexa Ramos had 1 goal and 1 assist, Kalani Thorpe scored 2, Chloe 1 goal and 1 assist, and Katie Rio’s with 1 goal and 1 assist.”

GO Canyon Lake!!
Canyon Lake had a hard time getting home on Thursday night as their bus had to take on that furious wind after a 3rd place finish for the Varsity and a 2nd place trophy for the Junior Varsity.
Lester Boehm is now entrenched in 3rd place for CL as he won the 200 meter dash with a time, 22.93 and on a calm night might have had this athlete moving even further up the pack. The good news is having another chance this Thursday in Lockhart.
