The Hawks could not get their last 3point shot off as time ran out on Canyon Lake in a razor thin loss to Navarro in Bi-District Playoffs, 46-43.
“I was very proud of our guys and how hard we competed. We certainly didn’t come out on top due to lack of effort,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman stated. “We had some guys step up and play really good games. Tyler did an outstanding job for us. He protected the paint and basket well and pretty much shut down their big man. Charlie (McIntosh) came in and gave us some great minutes. Jacob (Ramirez) played a really solid all around game. There were others too.”
Canyon Lake had the opportunities as the Hawks started the game with a solid first quarter but a repeat of their first game with the Panthers boomeranged after scoring 7 points while Navarro poured in 18 in taking a halftime lead, 30-23.

Young Life says Go Hawks
The Hawks Track & Field Teams had impressive starts for this year’s season, as Canyon Lake jumped off into the year with an improving motif takes shape as each passing week will culminate with the District 28-4A Meet in April.
There were 14 schools in attendance for the all-day festivities as each running event had athletes running not knowing if their time would be good enough for placing.
Kenneth Jowers moved up to 3rd place in the Hawk 100 meter event as he started his year with a 11.31 dash.
Chance Martelli shaved a second off his previous 400 meter best while moving up to 5th place on the all-time Hawk list. Matthew Bell moved up on the Mile Run by improving his time by 8 seconds and now resides in 7th place in that category for Canyon Lake.
In those throwing events, Jacob Foster and Bradley Hight both entered the top 10 for Hawk Discus participants, now holding in the 7th and 8th spots respectfully.

Rachel Bennett will be ready for turn-a-round game in Bandera on Tuesday
The Lady Hawk Soccer Team was close in their loss to Wimberley as the Texans left the CL’s Nest with a 3-1 victory leaving the Hawks needing a win this Tuesday on their road trip to Bandera.
Canyon Lake had the game tied with less than 6 minutes to go in the contest when Wimberley scored and took the contest to their eventual score of, 3-1.
“This was disappointing,” Head Coach Ryan Tierney stated. “Bandera is a winnable game for us and we will have to beat them…..we are passing better and we are playing with a lot of physicality.”
The Hawks had battled back against the Texans as this contest did not get out of reach until the last two minutes to this 12 win state ranked school.

Maddy Puente & Bailey Bryan with Home-Run Balls
Canyon Lake left their last day at the Navarro Tournament with a sweep, as the Austin Royals and Yoakum Bulldogs were the victims of the Hawk’s power.
The Hawk’s scored 16 runs in both games, while stroking 28 hits with 7 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home-runs making up 10 of those 28 hits.
CL finished the Navarro Tourney in 2nd place out of 24 teams for their best finish since they started attending this first of the year set of games.
“With this line-up we are pretty strong from one to nine with our power, bunting, and slapping,” Head Coach John Gallagher stated.

Lauren Mentzer gets even after pitching a 1-hitter against Luling
Hawks Suffer Growing Pains after mixed results on Friday at the Huber Softball Complex Tournament.
Canyon Lake had a rude awakening at 9am on Friday morning as the 7th rated Cuero Gobblers took control of this game early from the circle and the batter’s box.
Both places were lethal for the Hawks as they were able to coax a walk for their only successful ab bat as CL found it hard to get the bat on the ball for the entire contest.
Lauren Mentzer started the game but could not control the strike zone as Cuero took advantage and ran out to an 11-0 final score.

Kat Weber is ready for break out year!!
Canyon Lake accomplished getting that bad taste out of their mouths after starting the season with a loss to Wimberley. On Thursday at Huber Ranch, the Hawks, outscored their two opponents, 35-0 as CL left no prisoners.
Pearsall and Jefferson were the two schools taking the brunt of CL’s bad mood as both games were stopped after the 2nd and 3rd innings respectfully.
Some good signs as Maddy Puente and Lauren Mentzer both had home-runs in the second game and Puente’s had an exclamation point with a grand slam.

Go Hawks and pounce on the competition this year.
Canyon Lake began their new season getting drummed by the Texans as the Hawks had a hard time keeping Wimberley off the base paths.
Lauren Mentzer got the first start of the season and will try to forget this outing as quickly as possible in preparation for the Huber tournament that starts on Thursday.
Canyon Lake had 4 players that had their first game for the Hawks and adding up their combined stats shows this has an opportunity to be a decent season.
